Layne paced the family room floor in front of the picture window, as they waited on news about Simone and Dylan. Calling their phones had been useless. Neither had picked up. Layne doubted they were permitted to take their phones after The Fallen captured them. He couldn’t imagine what hell they were facing in Bo’s presence.
As an array of graphic images played through his mind, Layne double checked the sofa to see if Heaven was listening to his thoughts. Luckily, she, her mother, and her sisters were preoccupied with Marissa, trying their best to comfort her. Captain Laveaux, who had gone back to the terrace to use his phone, said he was calling some men he had positioned near The Fallen’s main headquarters. Layne couldn’t help but wonder if he was still attempting to reach Simone.
