Destiny – A Slice of Heaven

2181 Words
The first few days Destiny just slept, ate, lounged, and cried. Suzie had let her just process her grief and walk her through how she was going to handle that day while she was at work. It was getting her back into a process of rethinking her daily goals so it wasn’t just moping. Plus, it gave Suzie an idea of her mood and if she may need further companionship while he was at work. He’d already finagled some time off from his daytime job and his nighttime job to get her settled in. Destiny was already beyond grateful for everything he’d done to help her. She didn’t want to burden him any more than she’d already done. Whether she was ready to be alone or not, that was a whole other thing, but she wanted him to get back to his life pre-Destiny. Sitting on the living room floor sorting through the household box, feeling it would be safer, she watched as Suzie showered and dressed up for her nighttime job. She quickly learned what he meant by being a Queen. Destiny couldn’t quite find the right words to compliment her Drag Queen roommate. From the waist-length sandy blonde wig with auburn highlights to the over the top makeup complimenting his greyish blue eyes, and finalizing the look with a tight-fitting little black dress with slits up either side showing off the muscular tone of the thighs, let alone the ribboned high heels that lace up to his knees, Suzie turned into quite the bombshell as a female. Every aspect of the attire and hair accentuated his more feminine stature. Unless you had a trained eye, Suzie was taller than a normal size female. Destiny wasn’t short herself, she and Suzie were nearly the same height without shoes give or take an inch or two. As a male, he’s shorter than most males, a thinner subtly built man with sandy blonde hair trimmed short, dazzling grey-blue eyes, pouty lips, and a charming southern accent that fits his heritage. As Suzie the male, he’s a small built male with a southern dialect that keeps to himself. As Suzie Belle, he’s outgoing, charismatic, and mouthy, which Destiny confirmed as soon as he stepped out of his room grumbling about the ribbon not minding him while lacing them up. Destiny offered to help and he stumbled over to her stretching his freshly shaved legs before her. She laced it up according to Suzie Belle’s perfected standards. “Thank you, Doll,” declared Suzie, patting Destiny on her head. “You’re welcome.” Destiny smiled seeing Suzie put the earrings into his ears Suzie grabbed his water from the countertop and sipped through the straw to avoid messing up his lipstick. He looked down at the dark-haired female sitting crisscrossed on the floor with a couple of boxes opened around her. “Are you sure you will be alright tonight?” His eyes kept watching her for any signs of distress. She’d been a mess the first few days but seemed to be coming out of her distressed state. He hoped that this was not just a fluke, but making positive strides. She was shuffling through a stack of papers tossing some in the garbage while stacking others on the couch within reach. She looked up briefly from her sorting to him. She looked around the room at the stack of boxes and garbage bags piled up. Giving a big sigh, she looked out the window at the fading sunlight. “I think so,” she said hopefully. “It needs to be done. I need to get at least something done. This has been here for too long, it's even bothering me.” She laughed nervously and cleared her throat. “If it starts to become emotionally more than you can handle, stop please.” He squatted down looking at her, brushing the back of his finger along her jawline, then tucking a stray hair behind her ears. “I don’t want you doing something that you’ll regret. Mkay, Doll?” “Yes, Ma’am,” Destiny replied, trying a southern dialect, but failing miserably. “Pft,” Suzie said, standing back up carefully. “You are the only one allowed to call me Sir, even in drag.” He tilted his head and laughed. “I have an idea. One night, why don’t you come with me. I’ll dress you up, fix your hair. I may need to buy you different shoes, but other than that we fit the same clothes. How about that?” Destiny looked up to Suzie surprised to be invited to a drag show and be dressed up. “Uh, yeah, sure,” she said gleefully. “That sounds like it would be fun.” Suzie nodded, confirming the girl's answer. “Get to work and we can look into it further. There’s also a jar with some money in it. If you want to order delivery, it should be enough to cover almost anything you want. Pizza, Chinese, Mexican. Also, local menus are beneath it that you can browse through.” Destiny smiled with a nod. “Thank you.” “I have to get out of here, Doll. See you in the morning.” Destiny watched as Suzie strutted out of the house and left. This was the first time that Destiny would be by herself in the new place for any time longer than a run to the gas station. The night went on, Destiny continued shuffling through boxes that she felt comfortable enough to sort through. She did catch herself grumbling and cursing Dominic for being the worst person in the world. Likewise, she cursed herself for being so naive to his games and schemes; wondering how many times some had warned her about him but she disregarded it as rumors. About four boxes cleared out, one being used for keepers, her stomach growled letting her know that it was ready for food. She mentally admitted that she wanted to eat, but couldn’t decide what she was in the mood for. Getting up off the floor for a bit, she lifted the coffee can off the menu and pulled out the menus. There were a few to go through. Some even had items circled. She figured that was stuff that Suzie frequently ordered or extremely liked. Eventually, she figured that she would order two medium pizzas, one for her and one for Suzie when he was done for the night. She didn’t know if he’d be hungry or not, but she wanted to show appreciation. She called the pizza parlor from her phone and placed the delivery order. With the order placed, she wanted to go through the garbage bags of clothes and start organizing them into winter and summer. Since she was in a new state, she had a feeling that the temperatures would be different throughout the seasons. With it being late fall, the cool crisp nights she may or may not need a coat, but a sweater or light jacket might be best. Those were just a few things she needed to consider. She also thought about taking a stroll along the small beach and docks behind the house. She wanted to lay back on the dock and count the stars. Suzie had been encouraging her to get out and do things to not dwell on all the bad. The first few days were hard without having a babbling baby boy in the adjacent room calling out to her. Or waking up needing to change his diaper while he slept without waking him and tucking him back in. It was the small things that she was longing for. She felt a tear start to well up in her eyes and she brushed it away just as quickly as it came. Redirecting her focus on her clothes, she waited for the pizza to come. She had another goal that she wanted to accomplish this week, finding a job. Or at least apply to several so that she had her choice of places to work. She’d already worked at a gas station of sorts back home, if she could help it she wanted something different. There were a handful of fast-food restaurants and just as many country clubs that had clubhouses with bars and small restaurants that may need servers, or customer service desk agents. She doubted she could get into anything as big as an office to be a secretary at this time, but maybe something later as she got to know more people. She wanted something that would help her become acquainted with a wider range of personalities and experiences. Hoping that something they do or say to her will spark a fire in her. Destiny didn’t hear the doorbell chime softly in the front room while she put her clothes away. However, the heavy knocking on the door caught her attention causing her heart to beat rapidly out of her chest. She paused for a moment trying to collect herself, realizing that it probably wasn’t the police but the pizza delivery person. She would have to warn him about startling people like that. Answering the door, stood a guy looking around the driveway and across the street at the darkened apartments and the mailbox with their house number and street name labeled on it. The wind from the opening door wafted a pleasant cologne in her face. She batted her lashes taking in the smell of mahogany, sandalwood, and ocean spray. The taller male with dark blonde spikey blonde tipped hair held the pizza bag in his arm with a receipt for the purchase in the other. His bright blue eyes cruised over the slightly shorter female scrawling with his lips and tongue. This action quickly caught Destiny’s attention and she crossed her arms with the cash for the pizza. “I’d be more careful about knocking like that, dude,” she said, holding her ground firmly. “You could have scared some little old lady to death.” His neutral look turned into a humorous one with a grin spreading across his lips. “I’ll make sure to take care next time,” said the smooth-talking male. “Your pizza?” Destiny remained standing there looking at him until he mentioned food. Her stomach reminded her that it needed sustenance. “Oh, yeah, that,” she said, handing him the cash. He took the warm boxes out of the bag and handed them to her with the receipt. She walked into the house and put the boxes on the countertop. When she turned around, the guy had stepped in and walked towards her with her change. She took a couple of steps back running into the stool surprised at his casualness. Her heartbeat sped up. “Um,” she said looking over his shoulder at the open door while he handed her the cash. “Thanks.” He slightly turned to look behind him and where he was in the apartment. “Oh, sorry,” he apologized. “My bad.” He started making his way back to the front door. Destiny followed behind him shooing him out. She had a five-dollar bill for a tip. “Here,” she said, waving it at him. “Don’t forget this.” Nearly back to his SUV, he turned back around and noticed she had a tip for him. “I always tip. You guys don’t make enough as is.” She said coolly. He took the bill from her hand gently, his fingers brushing over hers. He gave her a friendly wink. “Thanks, darling,” he said and headed back to his vehicle. She stood in the doorway leaning against the frame, arms crossed as she watched him back out of the driveway. “Darling?” she questioned. “Darling.” She shook her head, closing and locking the door behind her. Heading back to the kitchen, she got a plate from the cabinet and a soda from the fridge. Sitting down at the counter, she checked out both pizzas and confirmed that both smelled good. She took a single piece from Suzie’s pizza but left the rest for him. Then, she grabbed two of her pizza, she’d leave a slice for him in case he wanted some too. Distracted from her latest train of thoughts, she ate her pizza and daydreamed about the delivery guy. She found him to be awkwardly cute and quirky. Not her typical type of guy, but he was funny. The receipt had fallen off the top of the pizza box and fell near her plate. She picked it up and looked at it. It gave the name, address, and phone number of the pizza place, who took her order, and the driver. Shadley. Shadley? She thought to herself. What a name. Is he Shad? Shadey? Destiny let her imagination run wild with all thoughts of what his name was. She couldn’t let go of the aromatic smell that came from him. It was unique.
