Navigating the Seasons

Jaxon Jaxon spent about two weeks in the British Isles with Nessa learning several critical tricks to living and surviving as a vampire in the modern world. She had a better concept to realistically live on a long-term level instead of for tomorrow. Nessa gave him vital information about what vampires can and can’t do. He had learned that much of what he had learned by reading was myth instead of fact. Nessa and Jaxon also explored much of her father’s parceled kingdom. She spoke about how grand it was during the time, but now, it seemed more like a quaint village with surrounding larger towns. They explored the remaining skeleton of Avi and Murial’s homestead and smith shop. Jaxon was able to see life from another perspective. When it was time for Jaxon to head home, Nessa provided him a few more tips to be able to walk among humans in the daytime. From monitoring the weather for cloud coverage and rain to the rise and fall of the sun, so that he could prepare for the unexpected. It wasn’t uncommon for Kat to spontaneously call on him to join her on one of her business rendezvous at any time of the day or night. Jaxon decided it was in his best interest to prepare, plan, and anticipate the worst case scenario. In lieu of this, Nessa introduced him to a supernatural family of inventors. The Wyrhta’s, or in modern English the Wright’s. Upon inducting Jaxon into the family, they explained their own bloodlines and how they played a part in the various supernaturals’ lives over the centuries. In the box was ailments, potions and the like to help him maintain normalcy if it was required. Each bottle or container gave a cryptic meaning of what it was or did. They mentioned that the Sp100f was something they encouraged for day time endeavors. He was able to contact them in many ways if he needed restocking of any of the items in the box. Between Jaxon and Nessa, he’d worked out a scheme to elude the house staff and servants, especially the housekeeper and chef, Tabitha. Jaxon had already received several calls from jobs he applied for. By having a job outside of the house, it would be logical that he wouldn’t always eat at home. If the occasion rose that he had to eat, there was a concoction in the box that would counteract his body’s reaction to human food. When he was done, unfortunately, he would have to purge what he ate. The guards would be the easiest of the lot to evade.  If he wanted to be seen he’d enter and exit the house normally.  If he didn’t, he’d practice levitating out the window and into the night’s sky.  He had a basic grasp of it, but knew he would need to practice at home on his own until he perfected levitating and maneuvering in the sky to an acceptable level. Oliver, the butler, on the other hand, would be the trickier one to out think.  He maintains the house and passes word along to Kat when something isn’t right or someone isn’t behaving according to her standards.  Jaxon and Nessa had to frequently fly back and forth so that Jaxon was ‘seen’ in the house, avoiding drawing any concern out of Oliver.  While tedious as it may have been, both preferred to play it safe. With plans set, Jaxon was seeing the end of his two weeks vacation come to an end.  As much as she taught him, he also knew that there was a lot that he still had left to learn.  These two weeks were just a crash course.  When he considered it safe to depart for an extended amount of time, he would mind link to her that he wanted to come.  They would set a place and then commence training. Jaxon pretty well felt that him departing was about as saddening for him as it was or her.  They’d grown close over the two weeks.  Telling stories about their youth, their mischievous sides, and those family members that they remember fondly.  They’d grown such a close, strong bond, that it could out-do most human connections.   Nessa expressed how pleased she was with his progress and how much he excelled at learning to live and be a vampire.  His rapid achievements caught the attention of many Council members stating their request for his presence when he returned for a visit. The day came when he knew he had to return.  He’d overheard Oliver talking to Tabitha when he passed by the kitchen window that the lower level was completed.  Kat would be returning to prepare for a gala to celebrate her new business adventure.  That she expected more out of her tenured staff in the upcoming weeks to prepare for this event.  Oliver even mentioned that she had big plans for Jaxon as well. Jaxon knew he would have to play it cool and nonchalant when he arrived back at Kat's mansion to stay.  He would have to scout his room thoroughly for secret places to hide his stash of goodies.  He couldn’t just leave things out in the open to not be questioned by Oliver or worse, Kat. Nessa and Jaxon flew back to Kat’s property, stopping at the overlook to reminisce about the night sky and the constellations.  He could hear her take a breath. “It’s really going to be quiet without you around, Jaxon,” she said finally.  “I know I have things I must do, plus, what I said I would find out for you.  I can’t wait until we get you out of this mess.  I know I’ve told you time and again, but, she’s dangerous Jax.  I can feel it.  She reminds me too much of Murial.  Please, be careful.” “I will try, Nessa,” he said looking down at her.  “You’ve got to put a little trust in me.  I know that getting with her wasn’t the best option, now.  I just, wanted to see the world.  I let my worries take charge of what you had planned.  We’ll get there though.  I can see it.  I can feel it.  You best get back.  Your sunrise comes much quicker than mine.  I’ll be in touch.” “That a boyo,” she said.  “I best be off before I start to show that I have a heart.  I’ve got a reputation to precede me.” With a wink and a lift into the air, she was off and away.  Jaxon stood watching as long as he could until she was out of even his sight. First thing first, getting to his room.  He focused on take off and then direction he needed to go in.  As he imagined his destination, he would often take a quick glimpse to make sure he was taking the right course.  His box in hand and bag on his shoulders, he eventually made a slight crash landing into his bedroom window.  It was locked, but he and Nessa had figured out how he could unlock it.  Looking at the lock, he mentally told it to unlock.  After several mental commands, the lock slipped and the window opened.  Jaxon looked around and behind him confirming the coast was clear and stepped into his room. He cleared his head and felt of the house.  It felt different, and not all good either.  He could mentally picture where everyone was and about how many people were here.  He shook his head again.  Jaxon took quickly to exploring the ins and outs of his room for any place he could create a secret chamber or pocket of space to store his private box.  Eventually, he found a loose beam at the back of his closet.  After some finagling, he was able to pull back the board without breaking it and set the box down safely.  Placing the board back, he shifted stuff around in his closet to discretely hide the misplacement of the wooden floor. He’d taken two of the most important potions and put them with his shampoo, soap, and cologne so that they looked like they belonged there.  Jaxon looked in the mirror at himself.  There were just a few subtle differences in himself before and now.  He felt older, to him, he looked older.  He wondered if Kat would notice this slight difference like he did.  He would have to keep up appearances with her that he was still that rakish, rebellious teen that longed to see the world and that she was the only one that could help him accomplish this.  Even though he knows now, he doesn’t need to rely on her.   His first plan on the agenda tomorrow evening, would be to follow up on the jobs that he had received calls back from.  He had to get his plan into action sooner rather than later. One thing he learned being a vampire, how sometimes time will fly by.  Since time is not a primary worry, he soon forgets to keep track of time.  The early blues and yellows of dawn peeped through the remaining leaves on the trees.  He would need to find a food source in the woods before the sun finished rising for the day. Swiftly moving from his window down to the ground, he dashed into the woods.  It wasn’t long before a reasonably sized forest animal presented itself.  Jaxon took down the deer, feeding just enough from the animal, that he felt satisfied.  The animal would awaken in a short span of time and go about its day.  He thanked the animal for it’s blood and headed back to his room. Pulling the curtains to and latching the window behind him, the darkness claimed the room as the sun rose.  He could hear the house slowly coming to life.  He had written a small note to not disturb him, unless Kat came home and placed it on his door.  He set an alarm on his phone to wake him from his slumber.  He hoped that it would wake him.  Nessa didn’t seem to have trouble waking when she wanted to as long as she fed just after waking.  He was going to try the same approach.  As he drifted to a void like slumber, he hoped it would work. The week went along progressively well.  He learned that the normal alarm wasn’t the best alternative to waking him up.  However, hearing people screaming or shrieking was certainly an eye opener.  Someone in the house had seen a rodent, got spooked and woke everyone in the house up, including Jaxon. He left his bedroom to see what the ruckus was about.  One of Tabitha’s new housekeeper assistants was pulling out new drapes for the living room when a mouse jumped out of the box right at her.  Many of the males laughed at the young girl’s situation, but Jaxon kindly went to help her sort through the rest of the box making sure no more mice leaped out at her.  They laid out the drapes according to color and length.  She was pleased that Jaxon helped when some of the others would just make fun of her. Tabitha beamed with pride at Jaxon being a proper gentleman.  From that point on, Jaxon was awake.  He quietly made his way around the house, seeking the mouse and getting rid of it his way.  He took the mouse out to the wooded area and tossed it aside. One of the wild animals would find it and eat it themselves.  Jaxon had to take blood where and when he could get it, while not becoming suspected by others. Oliver announced to the staff that Kat would be arriving sometime today.  He caught Jaxon and mentioned that she wanted to talk to him upon arriving.  Jaxon could only reply with a nodding acknowledgement.  He proceeded to get ready for that day and meet up with the various jobs for an interview that he’d scheduled after coming back. Jaxon had to plan his stint away from the house for these interviews.  It had to seem out of the blue.  First, he told Oliver he was going out to shop for the event that Kat would be hosting.  This led Oliver to handing over his spending card.  He was elated to see Jaxon putting in the extra effort for the Mistress of the house. Jaxon left quickly to return back before Kat arrived.  He went through a small handful of interviews, one hired him on the spot.  It was a rather new idea, but with many of the military wives not able to get out and shop for their families the local grocery store offered personal deliveries.  With Jaxon having a charismatic personality, they knew that many of the wives, mothers would request more delivery drivers like him. He filled out the paperwork and would start in the coming weeks in the late afternoons or bad weather.  His request was bizarre, but the store was excited to get this business adventure started. The interviews went quicker than he’d expected.  He hoped he kept his abilities at bay and simply got the job because of his tact.  At the boutique, he did coerce the girls to find a particular outfit.  After much digging and searching, they came up with something not far off from what he requested.  It was a sleeveless, button up silky dress shirt along with comfort fitting black pants.   When the items were put together, he glanced at himself in the mirror.  He thought to himself, it reminded him of some male dancers he’d seen when they went to Vegas.  However, if he was going to play Kat’s games, he had to dress the part.  Jaxon then bought several muscle shirts or tight fitting shirts that would allow his chest to be displayed. The pants, although comfortable, put emphasis on his key male aspects.  At one point he caught several of the personal dressers drooling or having to excuse themselves.  He closed his eyes, listening, to confirm that particular lady had to finish pleasing herself elsewhere in the store.  He smiled, feeling sickly accomplished.  When he was done, he paid for everything and the girls escorted him out of the store putting the bags in his card for him. While he didn’t mind the female attention, this wasn’t the way he liked to go about it, Kat’s way.  Either way, his natural s*x appeal mixed with a bag o’ vampire pheromone antics won out and he just went with the flow of things.  He wanted to make sure to keep Kat preoccupied from his new state of being, undead. Back at Kat’s house, the staff was alive and a nervous wreck, when she’d spoken to Oliver he’d mentioned the ongoing status of the house.  It seemed something set her off and he was the target of her wrath.  Jaxon calmly went to his room and put away his new outfits, hoping to avoid a collision with Hell Kat when she came back.   He was able to confirm through Oliver’s anxiety driven mood, that the gala was in two days.
