Chapter 6 The Day They Promised Forever

1072 Words
The morning of Isabella Hart’s wedding began with sunlight streaming gently through the large windows of her apartment. For a few quiet seconds after waking up, she simply stared at the ceiling. Then reality slowly settled in. Today was the day. Today she was going to marry Lorenzo De Luca. Her heart began racing. A soft knock sounded on the bedroom door before it opened. “Are you awake?” Lily asked excitedly. Isabella sat up slowly. “I’m awake.” Lily rushed into the room holding a garment bag. “Oh my God, today is happening!” she squealed. Isabella laughed nervously. “Please don’t scream. My heart is already beating too fast.” Lily placed the garment bag carefully on the bed. “You realize you’re about to marry the most intimidating man in New York, right?” Isabella rolled her eyes. “He’s not intimidating.” “Isabella.” “What?” “I’ve seen him glare at people.” “That’s his normal face.” Lily burst into laughter. “Well, today that ‘normal face’ becomes your husband.” The words made Isabella pause. Her husband. After six years of love, arguments, laughter, and memories… They had finally reached this moment. She slowly opened the garment bag. Inside was her wedding dress. Soft white fabric flowed beautifully, delicate lace running along the sleeves and neckline. Isabella touched the dress gently. “This is really happening,” she whispered. Lily placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Yes.” Isabella smiled softly. “I can’t believe I’m marrying him.” Across the city, Lorenzo De Luca stood in front of a large mirror inside his penthouse. He wore a perfectly tailored black suit. His tie hung loosely around his neck as he adjusted his cufflinks. Behind him, his best friend Matteo leaned casually against the wall. “You look nervous,” Matteo said. “I’m not nervous.” “You’ve checked your watch twelve times.” Lorenzo ignored him. Matteo smirked. “You’re getting married today.” “I’m aware.” “To a woman who completely controls you.” Lorenzo turned slowly. “She doesn’t control me.” Matteo raised an eyebrow. “Really?” “Yes.” “Then why did you cancel three meetings this week just to spend time with her?” Lorenzo didn’t answer. Matteo laughed quietly. “Relax. I’m not judging you.” “I’m perfectly relaxed.” “Sure you are.” Lorenzo straightened his tie again. For most people, today was simply a wedding. For Lorenzo, it was something much bigger. He had built his entire life around control. Power. Strength. Yet somehow, Isabella had walked into his world and changed everything without even trying. And the strange part was… He didn’t regret it. Not even for a second. The ceremony took place in a beautiful historic church in Manhattan. Soft music filled the air as guests quietly took their seats. Business partners, friends, and people from Lorenzo’s world had gathered to witness the event. But Lorenzo’s attention was focused on only one thing. The entrance. Matteo stood beside him, whispering casually. “You’re staring at the door like someone’s about to attack you.” Lorenzo ignored him. Then suddenly, the music changed. Everyone turned. And Isabella appeared. For a moment, Lorenzo forgot how to breathe. She stood at the entrance of the church wearing her white dress, her hair softly styled around her shoulders. The sunlight streaming through the stained-glass windows illuminated her like something out of a dream. Matteo quietly muttered, “Wow.” But Lorenzo didn’t hear him. He was completely focused on Isabella. She slowly began walking down the aisle. Step by step. Her eyes locked onto his. And in that moment, the entire room disappeared for both of them. All that existed was the distance between them. When Isabella finally reached him, Lorenzo took her hands gently. “You look beautiful,” he whispered. Her eyes filled with emotion. “You look handsome.” The priest began the ceremony, but Isabella barely heard the words. She was too focused on Lorenzo’s warm hands holding hers. When the moment for vows arrived, Lorenzo spoke first. “I spent most of my life believing love was something temporary,” he said quietly. The room fell silent. “But then you walked into my life.” Isabella felt tears building in her eyes. “You changed everything without even trying,” he continued. “You showed me that love can be patient, honest, and real.” He tightened his grip on her hands slightly. “And I promise that no matter what happens, I will always protect you, stand beside you, and love you for the rest of my life.” A tear slipped down Isabella’s cheek. When it was her turn, she took a deep breath. “Six years ago, I met a man who walked into my bookstore looking for a love story,” she said softly. A few guests smiled. “But I didn’t realize then that he would become my own.” She looked directly into his eyes. “You taught me that love isn’t about perfect moments.” “It’s about choosing each other every day.” Her voice trembled slightly. “And today, I choose you.” “Tomorrow, I’ll choose you again.” “And every day after that, for the rest of my life.” The priest smiled warmly. “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife.” Lorenzo didn’t wait another second. He pulled Isabella gently toward him and kissed her. Applause filled the church. But for them, the world had gone quiet again. Because in that moment… They truly believed they had forever. Later that evening, the wedding reception was filled with laughter, music, and celebration. Isabella danced with Lorenzo under the soft golden lights. “You’re smiling a lot today,” she teased. “It’s a good day.” “The best day?” He looked at her carefully. “Yes.” She rested her head gently against his chest. “I’m really happy.” Lorenzo wrapped his arms around her. “So am I.” But somewhere deep in the shadows of his past… A story that had never truly ended was waiting to return. And when it did… The promises they made today would begin to break.
