26. Fury

As Tiryon, Layen, and the ever-silent Galen came within a day’s travel of the Ahun capital, Galen’s demeanor changed. Before, he’d been quiet with an unceasing stride, wrapped in an air of pain, melancholy, and anger. Now his eyes once more had the same haunted look as when he’d knelt in the burned village of his dead sister. His pace increased until Tiryon and Layen struggled to match his stride. Try as they might, he pressed on faster and faster, as though fueled by his anger. “Galen!” Tiryon cried as his friend was almost beyond earshot. But Galen didn’t answer. The final glimpse he shot them over one shoulder was of a hate-contorted face Hennery would have understood. Galen had attained the Plane of Fury.
