……
Abigail was at the brink of a meltdown.
Somehow all the interviews she had gone for seemed to be worse than the last.
She had just one interview left…and she was the least hopeful for that one.
She shot above her degree for that job offer and she was more than shocked that she was even granted an interview.
She muttered thank you to the cashier and she got back into the cab with a coffee in her hands. This was her last hope.
“Please take me to the Mòn Cliff industry”
She sat back and drank the coffee as the can driver took another turn.
She didn't have any hope for this particular interview. She would only get a job in Mòn Cliff’s in her dreams.
But she has to honor their interview.
Standing in front of the enormous, fully tilled building she felt her hands get sweaty as she tried to put on a brave face. The building itself was intimidating…. surely a building doesn't need to be this big. The thing almost covered half of New York.
She cleared her throat and walked in as confidently as she could as she kept on muttering words of affirmation.
What do the other candidates have that she doesn't ... .apart from masters, maybe an exquisite knowledge of diamonds, probably a whole lot of connections…..
‘Gosh….’
She muttered under her breath…she was cooked.
She stepped into the building and her eyes immediately widened. She didn't know a building could be this beautiful. Suddenly she felt goosebumps on her skin as the cold immediately hit her fast. The interior seemed more magical, and it was like she stepped into another dimension. Everywhere was made of glass apart from the elevator, and that was made of sole shiny metal but it was strikingly different from the exterior. She could see the blue sky clearly and realized how tall the building was. She thought that the exterior was breathtaking….but the interior…that was the real drama.
There were people going up and down the lift and people came out the elevator doors, people walked past her without paying her any attention, which was a relief to her. She saw people discussing with whom she assumed were clients, and she just stopped in awe of the whole decor. She gently walked to the receptionist who welcomed her with a smile.
“Hello, a very good afternoon, how may I be of help?”
Every word that came out of her mouth seemed genuine as Abigail’s mouth went agape in shock .... Truly there is a line between the poor, the rich and the horribly wealthy, and she is nowhere near the horribly wealthy. There is even a difference with the customer service.
“I'm here for the interview”
She said as she tried to stabilize her emotions and face.
“I see…. please could I get your name and your number”
She asked as she held her hand out for the card on Abigail's own.
“Right…here you go”
The receptionist muttered a thank you as she quickly typed into the computer and scanned the code.
“Miss Abigail Owens, number 6?”
She asked and Abigail nodded.
“Right, here is your card, you're to go to the left wing on the 11th floor of the building, show them your card and you'll be immediately attended to"
Abigail's green eyes twitched with nervousness as she took the card from the receptionist's hand.
“Perfect, please note that there is a complimentary coffee machine and a snack corner for every interview candidate, so please feel free"
She gave a warm smile before returning to typing on her computer.
Abigail muttered a thank you as she headed to the lift that indicated was going to the left part of the building.
She had another mission, even if she failed this interview, she would make sure to take the wealthy man's coffee.
She got to the left wing of the building and it had a whole other decor, it was similar to the one on the first floor, but it was so much more fancy.
‘woah…’
She mumbled as she caught herself stretching her hands to touch the glass walls. She immediately retracted her hands as she scolded herself. She knew she was under qualified for this job, but she didn't have to show it.
She got to the hall for the candidates, and there were just eight candidates. For an enormous company, they were extremely picky.
“Candidate number 4, please step in….”
Her heart raced as they got closer to her, she couldn't let this opportunity skip past her. She felt her head buzz as she tried to recollect her thoughts..
“Candidate number 5, please step in….”
Minutes passed, then hours, then it was like she had been sitting there for eternity.
“Candidate number 6, please step in…..”
She clutched her skirt as she felt her hands shake a little. Standing up, she felt herself stumble a bit, it wasn't so noticeable, but she still almost died from the embarrassment.
She took a deep breath and mustered all the courage she had left, let out a little smile and walked into the hall….
“Thank you our candidates who were intelligent and commendable to advance to this level, you all have done exceptionally well, and although we only need one candidate, we wish the rest of you the best from your journey here”.
An interviewer said as she gave them a small clap and left the stage for another speaker.
“She had said all that there is, and although all your presentations were applaudable, there was someone that stuck out to us, we truly wish the rest of you nothing but the best here on out”.
He said with a small bow.
“The results would be announced tomorrow via email, but before that please enjoy our complimentary packages.”
They were handed a fancy bag filled with what she could guess are complimentary products. And she hurried down to the coffee machine.
Taking a cup of coffee she took the lift to the last floor, she wanted to awe her surroundings one last time before she finally walked out.
