CHAPTER 4
GABRIELLA
Ria was angry. Angry because she couldn't make her hair appointment, angry because she had to speed pack, angry because she broke a nail. She was like that, I understand, but listening to her rant was the worst part ''Does my hair look nice'' she had asked for the umpteenth time today. I nodded, for the umpteenth time also.
I rest my head on the window, feeling sick of having to tolerate her. Grandma Gigi and I had a heartfelt moment when she realized I would be gone for a month. A tear dropped from her eyes which she quickly wiped away before scolding me to eat well and poison Ria if she ever yells at me. I smiled remembering her round wrinkled face.
We arrived at the grand black gates, the house was in the reserved forest area. The black building stood tall, a waterfall with a wolf statue on it seated gracefully diagonal to the building, the part of the garden that could be seen from the car had fresh blue flowers sprawling from it. A trail of sports cars lined up to the side, this place did scream Adam Wagner. At least from the little Ria had gathered up during the car drive here
Adam Wagner was mysterious, there were few to no articles about him online, you rarely saw him on the news too, but that didn't mean his company wasn't at the top, leading others. Nobody knew much about him, it was almost like he didn't exist.
The car stopped in front of the black oak doors ''Here" the man wearing a black suit urged us to the entrance, a stoic expression on his face. The living room was dimly lit by chandeliers, black satin curtains spilled from the top of the ceilings to the floor, and the black sofa complimented the white top center table. A grand black spiral staircase led upstairs, the railings had beautiful gold details on them. A big white wolf painting was placed at the top of the staircase, it was beautiful, and the wolf was drawn to perfection.
A woman wearing a black and white maid outfit approached us. ''Welcome''she smiled. I nodded at her, returning the smile ''Your rooms are down the hall'' She stretched her hands forward guiding us towards the hall.
Our rooms were opposite each other, Ria was on a live, she had a steady online presence, and her charm was inevitable,'' Hi everyone, my company is doing a lifestyle check, guess on who? Losers have to gift me'' she laughed.
The maid looked at Ria, the look on her face showing she wasn't too pleased about what Ria was doing.'' So, when will we be seeing Mr Wagner'' I pushed out, the words didn't come out like a sentence which made the maid look at me weirdly, but she smiled regardless.
''Tomorrow morning'' she excused herself after telling us dinner would be ready by 8.''Psst, Gabriella'' Ria whispered as she moved closer to my door. I freeze at the saying of my name in full.
''Do you ever think this Mr Wagner isn't real and this is just a plan to kidnap unsuspecting journalists like us?''I shook my head. 𝘚𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘎𝘢𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢.''If you think this is really such a scam then you can leave Ria, and my name isn't Gabriella, it's Ella''I opened my door and slammed it shut in her face, the closing of her door following soon after.
My body slid down the door trembling. My voice only sounded normal when I was aggravated. I groaned, pushing my suitcase into the walk-in closet while texting Ria an apology.
.*.*.*.*.*.
There was barely enough sunlight in the part where the house was built. I stretched my arms, feeling the cool breeze from my open windows. This bed was the softest thing I've slept on, since the orphanage.
When I woke up, the stranger who had helped me was gone, no one remembered what he looked like, or they didn't want me to know, I assumed he didn't want to be found. He had graciously paid the medical bills so I let him be a mystery.
