CHAPTER 8
GABRIELLA
When Adam is home, there is always music playing, he seems unable to function without it. Last week when the music stopped playing during breakfast, he almost lost his temper immediately summoning one of the maids to fix the problem.
𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭 played through the inbuilt speakers of the living room. ''Welcome,'' the maid greeted. ''Mr Wagner has started his dinner''She bowed and left. He wanted us to have dinner with him. Ria smiled adjusting her brown plaid skirt as she walked towards the dining room.
Adam sat at the end of the table, still in his suit. ''Good evening Adam, how was your day' 'she asked beaming as she sat down next to him. ''Alright''he replied, his gaze on me as I sat down next to Ria.
Ria continued to talk, asking him questions which I made mental notes to write down. I looked down at Ria's purse on the chair, remembering the purple liquid she bought today, I had no idea when she was going to use it. Today? Tomorrow? I couldn't tell, but I had to stop her.

It was past midnight now, I had just woken up from one of my nightmares. It was the same one every night, from fifteen years ago.
I was nine, my birthday was coming up soon. I couldn't help but notice that the older I got, the more paranoid my parents were about me going outside or even going to the neighbor's house to play with their son who was the same age as me.
I was feeling sick being cooped up in the house, looking at other kids playing in the grass from my room window. They bought locks every other day ''This won't be able to hold them off'' my mom whispered, a worried look on her face. ''Well, these are the best in the market'' my dad replied, running his hands through his long black hair in frustration. ''These people aren't humans'' my mom walked around the kitchen island picking up my used plates and dropping them in the sink.
''Mom can I go outside and play with Jeremiah'' I pleaded ''No honey, outside is dangerous ''she replied picking up my sister's plate also. ''Just stay in Ella''my sister added, she was sixteen with long black hair and green eyes like my dad. I pouted, anger rising in me, everyone got to go outside except me. I folded my arm across my chest, stomping my way upstairs towards my room and slamming the door.
''She'll come around''I heard my dad tell my mom from outside my door. ''We should move Farkas'' she whispered. ''We will'' he said followed by their retracting footsteps.
I sat on my bed, looking outside at the kids playing, Jeremiah among them. He stopped and looked up at my bedroom window. I stared back at him, and he smiled at me, pointing his fingers in a direction. I stood up from my bed, walking closer to the window. He pointed again towards the back of the house. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳. I smiled and nodded my head. He ran to his house that was opposite mine.
It was dinner time soon, I wasn't planning on eating but I went downstairs. ''Gabriella''my mom kissed my head, she smelt like flowers and sun. I sat in my seat, across from my sister who was on her phone. ''I'll get strawberry milk from the kitchen''I blurted.
My parents looked at me, ''You are not hungry?'' my mum asked, setting my dad's plate down. ''No''I replied, scurrying towards the kitchen. 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳.
I opened the door, shutting it quietly behind me. The cool night breeze smacked my face, and I smiled. It felt nice to be outside. ''Jeremiah''I called out. ''It's me, Ella''I announced coming down from the stair to the ground. I heard a growl from the bushes. My body stiffed ''Jeremiah" whimpered, tears forming in the corners of my eyes.
I saw it. A pair of blue eyes in the bushes. I whipped around, backing further away from the door. There it was, another growl. '𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘴' my mom's words from earlier echoed in my head. I heard another growl and then I saw it. A wolf. A white wolf stared at me with its dark blue eyes.
