I walked Takis into the woods, beyond the gazebo. We stomped through the clustered trees, moss-covered stumps, and around boulders. The trek felt like a thousand miles as my heart pounced chaotically within my chest. Standing outside the cabin, I pointed to its dilapidated roof, and said, “Matty’s in the loft. Be careful when you walk up the stairs. They’re dangerous.” Takis entered the cabin. Five minutes later he came out and made a few calls on his cell phone. Almost ten minutes later, David escorted two police officers and two EMS workers into the woods, to the cabin. The EMS workers carried a stretcher.
