Chapter 2

Cameras flashed across their angle, and slowly, Sabrina heard the whispers in the air. “I can't believe my eyes! Isn't that the famous Emily Lawson?!” “She’s also Mr. Craig Gibson's girlfriend!” “Girlfriend?! s**t! That's right! They never broke up!” “Lord! She looks absolutely stunning! Jeez! Mr. Gibson is all over her! I think they need a room!” “Their chemistry is unmatched! They look perfect! But isn't it a shame he's kissing his girlfriend in front of his wife? On their anniversary dinner?” Sabrina felt her legs almost giving up on her. Craig's cousin's discussions stirred up her emotions. He didn't even have the decency to acknowledge her presence! “Hey! No cameras!” Craig barked at the people flashing their cameras as he used his hand in shielding Emily. “I'll take you to your room.” Luna tells Sabrina, but she shakes her head, taking a step forward. “Don't!” Luna stopped her from going over to Craig. Before Sabrina could protest, Craig carried Emily in a bridal-style and made his way outside without even caring to look back at her. Sabrina felt her world stopped. She took that walk of shame over to the window, looking out as Craig gently placed his ex-girlfriend in the car before driving out of the place. “Sabrina, my dear.” Hearing her father's voice behind her, she wiped her uncontrollable tears, “Not now, dad…” Then she walked past the crowd, running upstairs and shutting the door behind her. “Let her be.” Luna tells her uncle. After all, this is Sabrina's house. Besides, their father has always been on Emily’s side. With a painful emotion, Sabrina crashed to the ground, her head spinning with so much bitterness. At 2am that night, Sabrina heard a voice at her door, “You should go to sleep. You've been crying all night.” “Go home Luna… I'm waiting for my husband.” Sabrina cried. She never left the spot she had been crying and it seems Luna didn't leave along with the other guests. “But It's pass 2.” “I can't just sleep when my husband isn't back yet. I'll only sleep when he's back. I know he's coming back to me… especially since I haven't revealed my announcement to him.” Sabrina whimpered, her face wet from her tears. She refused to believe that Craig would leave her to spend the night with his ex-girlfriend like their anniversary or announcement meant nothing to him. “Don’t lie to yourself because it makes you feel better. Whatever you have to say to him can wait.” Luna said, pushing the door closely. It was good she convinced everyone she could handle this, especially since Sabrina's father insisted on handling this. The next morning… Sabrina walked over to the door as soon as she heard the knock. As soon as she opened the door, the smile on her face faded. She had run so fast to the door, thinking Craig was finally here for her until her gaze landed on Emily, who had several suitcases beside her. “Hello. If you're not the maid, I guess you're Craig's wife?” Emily stretched her hands out, “I'm Emily, nice to finally meet you.” Sabrina studied her for a moment, “Is this a show?” They literally grew up together! Emily is her stepsister, and acting all formal with her?! “Oh, forgive me… for a second, I couldn't recognise you. You look fat compared to years back. But thanks for taking care of Craig in the past four years…” She shrugs without a trace of remorse on her, “I'm back now, so you don't have to.” She placed her hands on her suitcase with a friendly smile. Sabrina smiled bitterly. Emily's words made it seem like she had been Craig's nanny and her duties were over. “You don't have to thank me for taking care of my own… I mean my ‘personal’ husband..” She emphasized. Emily smiled gently, “Could you help with these suitcases…they are so heavy…” “Where is Craig?” Sabrina asked. “Help me move in first, I'll tell you.” Sabrina hesitated. But the suitcases could belong to Craig, so she lowered herself to help. However, before she could lift the black suitcase, Emily suddenly slipped. She hit her head in the process and just then, thick blood started rolling down her chin, causing her to cry in pain. “Ah! Do you hate me that much?!” Emily cried as more blood trickled down her face. Perplexed, Sabrina asked, “What are you talking about?” “Somebody help!!” Emily screamed, her voice filled with fear. “Emily?!” Before Sabrina could process what was happening, a car stopped in front of them and Craig dashed out, rushing over to Emily! He held her in his hands and tried to nurture the bruise on her, his eyes darkened and a frown settled on his face. “You…you..didn't tell me your wife hates me this much…” At that instant, Craig raised his head at Sabrina, his eyes burning with cold fire. Sabrina creased her brows, shaking her head as if to defend herself. “Craig, I promise, I never…” “Save me the pretense!” He barked, not willing to listen to the lies she had to say. “But…but…” “f**k off!” He barked coldly into her face, brushing past her as he carried Emily over to his car. Sabrina on the other fell on the suitcases after that push that her head was hit brutally. But that had no effect on her… Her husband picking his ex's side over hers felt like a knife in her chest! In less than two hours, Emily's wounds were attended to and her head was bandaged. And now, Craig was driving them back. “I'm sorry you had to go through this. I don’t know what came over my wife.” When Emily insisted on taking her suitcase in, she thought Sabrina would be kind enough to help her in. I mean… Sabrina has always been a nice person. It's already bad that he foolishly got married to her when he didn't end things with Emily. He couldn't afford for her to get hurt again because Sabrina didn't want Emily living in their house. “I'll scold her. Please forgive her.” Emily shook her head, “I understand her. She's not at fault.. I mean, the suitcases were too heavy, and then I fell.” “So… she had nothing to do with why you hit your head?” Emily shrugged, “I could say she contributed but I don't want you to get mad at her because of me.” Craig didn't utter a word. Emily has always been the nicest person in his life. Even when Sabrina was at fault, she's trying to make sure he doesn't scold her. She was indirectly protecting her stepsister!
