I raised my hand to correct a rather innocuous but erroneous answer to a common question: “Who discovered electricity?” I pointed out that ole Ben Franklin did not discover electricity but cemented the connection between electricity and lightning. While I understand that this may be an unnecessary distinction for children my age, I thought it needed to be done. There are too many myths, legends, and half-truths that are taught to children, who are only to be bitterly disappointed later in life by the truth.
