Chapter 3

600 Words
The moment I realized I had traveled back in time, my blood went from frozen cold to boiling hot. I slowly opened my eyes and stared at Cain. Last time, I didn't know how great his family's influence was yet. I always believed that in a society ruled by law, as long as I refused, he couldn't do anything to me. However, I later learned that some people really could control everything with just one hand. The Cain standing before me looked only seventeen or eighteen years old. He was still wearing the school uniform shirt from our high school. I realized I had most likely returned to my second year of high school, right when Cain had just transferred to my school. That was when Cain started sticking to me. He wouldn't allow me to talk to any other boys. Wherever I went, he followed me. Back then, he was annoying, but I never thought he was that terrifying. Until the summer vacation when the boy I had always liked came back. Cain saw me talking to him downstairs and flew into a rage. He dragged me into the alley behind the neighborhood. That was the first time he truly crossed the line and threatened me. I knew that if I kept provoking him like I did in my past life, fighting back over and over would only leave me trapped like a cornered animal. If I wanted to get rid of someone like Cain, a rich kid with powerful connections, I couldn't fight him head-on. Killing him would not be hard. If I pretended to be obedient, I would have plenty of chances. However, that would be letting him off far too easily. At the end of the day, Cain was nothing more than a parasite who relied on his power to hurt others. The person who protected him and allowed him to get away with everything deserved to pay too. I covered my face and looked at Cain with a frightened, helpless expression. "Cain, don't do this. I'm scared." My voice was soft and weak, with a faint trace of tears. I knew Cain couldn't resist hearing me like this. He had always been extremely sensitive to sounds. This was something he had always been obsessed with. Cain froze for a moment, clearly not used to my sudden change. During the half year he had spent chasing after me, this was the first time I had ever shown weakness in front of him. I shrank closer to him and tugged at the corner of his clothes. "Cain, my clothes are wet. I'm really cold." The Cain now was only seventeen. He lowered his head and looked at my slender fingers gripping his shirt. Then his eyes moved to my soaked school shirt. His throat moved slightly. He wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me into his arms. "Since you're scared, then behave. Don't make me angry again. Understand?" I demurely looked up at him. I forced myself to ignore the pain at the corner of my mouth and whispered, "I'll do whatever you say." Cain smiled. The tight frown on his face finally relaxed. "You should have acted this obedient from the start. Then, you wouldn't have had to suffer that slap." I didn't argue with him. Instead, I slowly turned my head and buried my face against his chest. Listening to the strong heartbeat inside his chest, which gradually grew faster and faster beside my ear, I curled my lips into a smile. It was too noisy. Wouldn't it be better if it stopped?
