Awkward

Mia's POV We walked through the building where Dylan's first official interview was being held. He walked with so much pride and confidence that no one would guess that he had not done a live interview before. I wanted to slap his head to bring him down to earth but that would be unnecessary trouble for me right now. He still had the same annoying poker face and closed-off attitude. I used to think I would be able to see through him, know how he feels and what he thinks about. But I could never understand Dylan and anytime I finally felt like he'd let me in, he'd quickly shut me out again. It hurt then because I was open and vulnerable with him. I showed him parts of me my brother is unaware of. I worked hard to strengthen our bond but he worked hard to push me away all the time. I think deep down I knew he didn't love me, but I had hope...I was desperate but that's all in the past now. I walked a few feet behind him, going through the interview questions and our other schedules. When we get to the door, he stops abruptly, and I almost bump into him. "Are you okay? Suddenly got cold chicken feet?", I asked mockingly "I'm more than okay. Let's just get this over with." He opened the door and walked inside without me. "Such a gentleman", I rolled my eyes as I opened the door again to enter. "My Mia!" Alexander said excitedly as soon as he saw me. I dated Xander two years ago and the last time I saw him was at an interview for one of my other clients. Our relationship was fine, but I got bored at some point, so I made up some excuse to break up with him. "Xannie!" I smiled, walking over to hug him. "How have you been and how's work?" "I've been doing well, and work has been great, too!" he slid his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him, "You know I've missed you, babe." "Oh, come on, Xander," I laughed. "It wasn't too long ago we met each other." "That's right, but you owe me a dinner date since you ditched me last time, my lady" he takes my hand in his and kisses it lightly. "I already told you I'm sorry about that and you know I didn't mean to ditch you". I laughed Dylan coughs and clears his throat and I look to see him staring at Xander like he wanted to beat him up. Aggressive much? "Oh right. I'm sure you already know who this is but for formalities sake, this is Mr Dylan Scott. Dylan, this is Alexander Dean." "Nice to finally meet the genius, Mr Dylan." Xander lets go of me and walks to him with his hand extended. Dylan eyes his hand with contempt for a few seconds before he reluctantly shakes it. "Don't try to flatter me." He murmurs I checked the time. "Time's running. We should get things ready for the interview." Xander smiled at me. "You don't need to do anything. Just wait nearby, and I'll go set things in place." Once he was gone, I turned to Dylan. "I saw that look in your eyes, the one that shows you want to cause trouble on purpose. Can you not mess this up for us please?" He frowned. "Has Alexander f****d you?" "That's a rude question to ask, Mr Scott, and it is also none of your business." "Did you guys f**k the last time you met? After the last interview with your client?" I decided to mess with him a bit. "We probably would've if I didn't have other plans that night. We don't have time for this discussion, let's go there. Please remember to be well-behaved and answer all questions nicely; this interview is really important." "But how do I do that? I'm not well-behaved." "I know that more than anyone, but this is for your career and mine, so just try your best not to show the asshole side of you." Xander signalled for us to come over and we made our to him quickly. Dylan sat close to me on the sofa and I had to shift away from him a bit because being that close to him was irritating. Xander sat in front of us with a pen and a notepad in his hands. The interview was going fine until Xander brought up a topic I hate to remember. "So Mr Scott, can you tell me about your childhood?" "I don't like my childhood so no. I have nothing to tell you about it." I glared at him before turning to Xander. "Don't mind him," I laughed, "He has some good memories, don't you Dylan?" "You call him Dylan? I thought you didn't call your Clients by their first names. Did you two know each other before now?" "Yes, we did." Dylan smiled. That smile, I didn't like where this was going. "Let's focus here. It doesn't matter if he knew me before." "This is my interview, Miss Jason, remember? And he asked about my childhood. You're part of my childhood." "This is great!" Xander smiled, "So, were you two just friends or childhood sweethearts?" Childhood sweethearts my foot. "Yes. Miss Jason was head over heels in love with me", he grinned. "That's not important-" Dylan cut me off, "This is my interview, Miss Jason; please stop interrupting." I decided to calm myself down and not let his words get to me, so for the rest of the interview, I didn't interrupt, even when Dylan made some unnecessary comments. No problem, I'll have Xander edit those parts out. When we were done, we decided to go back to the hotel I was staying at to have dinner at the restaurant there. "How are you feeling?" Dylan asked "Hungry and tired." I sighed "I know a good way to help relieve you of stress; we just need to go to your room." "Yeah right" I rolled my eyes. "So not happening." I go to the bar to get water. "We should be getting drunk tonight babe, not drinking water." He whined. "Firstly, I'd appreciate it if you did not call me babe, and secondly, water is good for you; alcohol isn't." "You suck." He sighed. "Whatever floats your boat. Just drink the damn water." He grinned and leaned in close to me. If this was ten years ago, my stomach would be doing summersaults and backflips but right now, I just wanted to punch him in the nose. "You're really pretty up close my Mia", he said softly. He leaned in closer, and for some reason, I froze, not knowing if I should move or push him away. Was he trying to kiss me? "Please, Dylan I can't-" "Mia!" A familiar voice called from across the room. I turned to see one of my old clients I almost dated. His name's Nico, a tech businessman. "Mia, how are you? It's so nice to see you again." He said when he got to me. "it's nice to see you again too." I smiled at him. I meant what I said because Nico is such a great guy, and I would've loved to date him, but I couldn't risk starting a scandal. Dylan cleared his throat and Nico glanced at him like he was just noticing he was there. "Oh, who is this?", he said, eyeing him slowly. "This is Mr Dylan Scott. He's the client I'm currently working with." I looked at Dylan. "Mr Scott, this is Mr Nico Martinique," I said with an awkward smile because I could feel Dylan was getting annoyed. Could things get any more awkward right now?
