Zara adjusted the sleeves of her new suit, trying to calm the nervous tremble in her hands. This was her chance her first real step into the world she’d worked so hard to reach. Taking a deep breath, she gathered every bit of courage and pushed open the grand glass doors of the company.
She walked to the reception, clutching her documents tightly as if they were her lifeline, then was led to an older man sitting behind a large desk. With hope burning in her chest, she passed him her file. He flipped through it silently… until his expression suddenly hardened.
“I’m sorry,” he said flatly, pushing the papers back toward her. “We can’t hire you.”
Zara’s heart dropped. “But, sir… I have all the qualifications. Please, at least ”
“No,” he cut her off sharply. “We just can’t. Please leave.”
