Chapter Twelve In the morning dark clouds hung low over the jungle. The winds raged and blew far beyond anything I had ever seen. Branches blew from the trees and rain beat against the roofs and windows but it didn’t matter. Carlos made his way to the hangar and released me from the cross. He locked heavy manacles on my wrists that were held together by a short chain. Then he led me out through the massive storm and locked my hands to a ring high up on the whipping post. Moments later Cesar followed with Tomas. He was fastened in a similar fashion on the other side of the heavy wooden timber. There we were left for the duration. For two days and nights the winds howled and the rain pounded against us. There was no escape as the storm raged on. We just hugged the post and kept our faces
