That early morning, the sun had just risen from the east in its glamour and beauty brightening the sky and spreading warmth across the land and setting quietly in the west, a new day for the people of Norway and another hunting spree for the great werewolves of the land. A young woman called Winifred had a baby at home in the company of nice midwives, she smiled through her tears as she had a tough labour, hearing her baby cry made more tears leave her eyes. For years she had searched endlessly for a child seeking for the fruit of the womb and an opportunity to be addressed as a mother and prove to the people of Norway that she wasn’t barren and was a true female beta instead of a male beta which most of the female werewolves referred to her as whenever they wanted to make mockery of her little did she know that the birth of her child would bring her more pain than the joy she expected and wished for. The midwives were still cleaning her up when a messenger ran into the compound, dirty and out of breath to report the death of her husband, according to him, he was bitten and strangled by a poisonous snake while they were out hunting, they belonged to the family of betas amongst the werewolves, this wasn’t a pleasant news, Winifred passed out immediately she got the news after letting out a loud cry. She knew how much her husband anticipated the birth of their child and had gone out hunting promising to bring home a huge game in celebration of the birth of their child little did he know that his death was out there waiting for him in the woods. He was buried that evening as the werewolves of Norway and his kinsmen mourned him. His beautiful wife Winifred covered her face in white chalk wearing sack clothes while she lay flat on her stomach crying nonstop forgetting that she had a baby to nurse, she loved her husband dearly and loosing him only felt like a huge part of her have been cut off from the rest of her body. She named her daughter Nina after her late mother, she had just returned from the river one morning when she walked into her hut and met her three years old daughter playing carelessly with snakes, this left her shocked as she could recall that her husband was killed by the same animal, she ran out screaming for help and in no time, the priestess arrived, did some rituals and the snakes crawled away, she turned to Winifred who had grabbed her daughter in total confusion inspecting every part of her body to be sure she wasn’t bitten by the snake. “She can not be bitten by them, she is not one of us but one of them” the priestess said in a loud voice. Winifred was confused “I don’t understand, what are you talking about?” “Nina must be abandoned at a boarder linking two kingdoms as killing her isn’t an option, she is the reincarnation of the viper goddess” the priestess said and everyone who had heard Winifred’s scream and ran to her aid was left in shock, they all gasped in fear. Scared Winifred grabbed her daughter tight shaking her head, it was way too difficult for her to take that information down and accept it, she is aware of what the late viper goddess looked like and how she tormented their kingdom and all who worshipped her, she could also recall how the goddess made sure that human sacrifices were made to her every full moon and how she slaughtered an entire family at will, she was evil and when the villagers couldn’t stand her manipulation, they plotted a coup and murdered her when she was in her weakest form, who could have thought that after a century she would come back as Winifred’s daughter? “My daughter is not that evil goddess and can never be, I prayed for years to the gods for a child, he gave me one now you call her evil because she wasn’t bitten by those snakes?” She asked almost in tears. “Believe it or not Winifred, if she isn’t sent out of this kingdom, something worse than we expect will befall us all” the priestess said storming out of the compound at once. Winifred clutched tight to her daughter looking scared, she was afraid that the villagers might forcefully take her daughter from her or maybe hurt the little girl, it was too hard for her to believe that her child was the evil no one would ever want to have anything to do with, she didn’t stop visiting the priestess’s shrine in efforts to seek for a solution as she was noticing that the evil the priestess prophesied about was gradually befalling the land and she could see everyone pointing accusing fingers at both herself and daughter and as if that wasn’t enough, she started growing weaker and sick by the day while her daughter kept glowing with beauty and pride. When she realized she was at the verge of loosing her life if she insists on paying deaf ears to the priestess, she accepted to do away with her only daughter, a cleansing ritual was conducted and little Nina was abandoned at the boarder between Norway and Oslo just like the priestess instructed. Little Nina cried when she realized that she have been abandoned by her own mother, it was almost nearing night fall when Maria Hagen who was just passing through found her looking scared and helpless and took her home. Winifred arrived the scene she abandoned her daughter a while later hoping to find her and perhaps run away with her to another land but she was no where to be found, the poor woman cried like she have never done before. Present day… Technology have been introduced and people make use of cars instead of just horses and carriage, phones instead of sending messengers, electricity instead of lanterns, the child whom was abandoned at the boarder was at the verge of becoming a wife to the king of Oslo.
