King Erick paced his room in total confusion. He was beginning to feel terrible for what he had done. He gnashed his teeth as he looked down at his hands, covered in his wife’s blood. He shook his head sadly, wondering why he had gone that far. He walked straight into the bathroom, washing his bloody hands as he couldn’t stop splashing water on them. When he walked out of the bathroom with a white towel in his hands, wiping his wet hands, his gaze caught Nina, who was standing opposite him with her arms folded across her chest. He was startled, not expecting to see her there. He gasped, looking completely bewildered.
“Nina, what are you doing here? You aren’t supposed to be here,” he said, walking closer to her while he feared that someone must have seen her. It was true that he had an affair with her, but her being seen in his room again, without the marriage rites being performed yet, was seen as sacrilege on the part of the king and disrespect to the throne of alphas.
She scoffed, rolling her eyes, and placed her hand on his shoulder. “And why shouldn’t I be seen here, King Erick? I’m carrying your child, after all, and soon we’ll be married.”
“The fact remains that we aren’t married yet. Someone could have seen you. Do you know what would happen if the elders get wind of this, especially with their opposition to our marriage?” He asked, raising both eyebrows.
“Who cares about what those damn old elders think, King Erick? You are the king of this kingdom, and it’s high time you understand who you are and quit letting those old men tell you what to do and what not to do. It’s time you put them in their rightful place,” she smirked, staring deep into his eyes like she was searching for something. He returned the gaze and finally looked away, taking a deep sigh.
“I feel terrible. She has been loyal and faithful, yet I treated her like she was nothing. Would the gods ever pardon me for this?” He bowed his head, feeling completely confused.
Nina gasped. “The gods would be proud of you! Or do you want to choose her over me?”
King Erick turned, staring at her, wondering what his response was supposed to be. Surprisingly, he felt something very strong for Nina, and as guilty as he felt for what he was doing, he still couldn’t see himself letting go of her.
“You know I can’t choose between you both, and even if I had to, you remain my choice.”
She chuckled. “You don’t need to worry about anything, my love. You’re on the right track. If those elders keep opposing our marriage, then leave them to me.” She planted a kiss on his lips, rubbing his cheeks gently. “You look so handsome today, by the way.”
He smiled, feeling a little nervous. He ran his hands through his hair. “I didn’t notice…” He shrugged, turning to the mirror while she smiled cruelly.
Nina walked out of the room a few minutes later, after making King Erick fall asleep in her lap. She passed a door, which obviously led to the room of a few omega maidens who served in the palace, and paused when she overheard something. They were chitchatting about what was happening in the palace and how Nina would pay dearly for stepping on the queen’s toes. She pushed the door open and walked in, leaving three maidens looking shocked, as none of them had expected to see her.
“You’re here…” one of the maidens stuttered, looking completely perplexed.
She shrugged. “Surprise…” Nina grinned, raising her hands above her shoulders. She just couldn’t wait to unleash the anger burning in her chest toward the maidens for gossiping about her. “You made me a topic, now I’m here. What do you have to say?”
The maidens exchanged glances. One of them tried to defend themselves, but the older maiden hushed her. “We owe this lowlife no explanation. She stepped on the wrong toes this time, and trust me, she must pay.”
Nina gasped. “Are you referring to me?”
“You heard me clearly. How dare you have an affair with the king? How dare you try to turn the royal family upside down? How dare you wish to be queen? I’ve always despised you from the very moment the queen allowed you into this palace. Even if the king decides to take a second wife, you are no werewolf, and therefore, you’re not qualified in any way,” the older maiden said with so much rage backing her voice. She looked fearless, and that irritated Nina a lot.
Nina loved it when people were scared of speaking to her. She felt superior when people trembled at the sight of her, but seeing a maiden stand up to her made her upset. Letting that slide so easily was something she wasn’t willing to accept. She walked closer to the maid and giggled. “You wanted the king as much as I did, didn’t you? Are you angry that he chose me, an ordinary girl, over a werewolf? Or is there something else making you so bitter, young lady?” she asked. Before the maid could utter a word, Nina had her hand wrapped tightly around her throat, her long sharp nails digging deep into her flesh as blood began dripping down her neck.
The maid couldn’t scream or escape Nina’s grip. Her eyes shifted from brown to green as she struggled to shift into her wolf form and fight Nina, but Nina’s strength made it impossible for her to do anything. It was also clear that Nina had cast a spell on her, making it difficult for her to lift her feet from the floor. Nina smacked her lips over and over again, shaking her head. “You fool! You should have thought twice when you decided to stand up to me—or should I say, pick me as an object of discussion.” Her grip tightened on the maid’s neck, making her gasp terribly for breath. Nina gnashed her teeth, her long canine teeth visible.
Finally, Nina let go of her throat, and the maid’s lifeless body thudded on the floor.
The other two maids looked shocked and moved backward, taking a position to attack her.
“What are you?” one of the maids cried out in shock, trying so hard to shift into her wolf form, but a strange force was stopping her. She could feel a tingling sensation around her.
Nina grinned, spreading her hands apart. There was blood on them. Her eyeballs turned red as she walked closer to them. “I am the viper goddess, your worst nightmare.”
“What?” Both maids chorused in shock, looking completely confused. Before they could do anything to save themselves from being killed, Nina turned to the door, wagged her finger at it, and the locks clicked shut.
She turned back to the maids. “So where were we?” she asked and quickly turned into a huge serpent. The maids screamed so loud, but their voices couldn’t be heard. It felt more like they were screaming from the deepest part of a pit. Nina bit both of them on their necks, strangling them with her slippery body while watching their bodies turn white from the coldness of death. She hissed, wagging her snake tongue after turning back into her human form.
She ran her hands through her hair and sighed. “That wasn’t so bad… Something worse than this will befall anyone who dares to stop me. King Erick is mine, and so is Oslo. No one—not even the so-called queen—can stop me.” She mumbled and burst into a loud roar of laughter, feeling completely victorious. She walked straight to the door, and without opening it, she walked right through the locked door. A palace guard, who had seen her walk through the door, could barely move from where he stood, ending up peeing his clothes.
