Adeline sat in a café. Low and soft music could be heard in the background together with loud chattering.
She sighed once more as she watched the smile on customers' faces and wondered why there was no smile on her face. It’s been a week.
A week since that incident and she was thrown out of her home. Her father, Timor King disowned her both privately and publicly as the King’s group released a statement saying she was no longer part of them. Her friends left her and everybody scorned her.
The social group she was once part of had become history to her. However through this situation she knew who her real friends were.
“your blue mountain tea”, the waiter said as he dropped the tea. Even as he left, he couldn’t stop staring at Adeline.
Adeline wore a simple denim shirt and blouse. She wore a windbreaker as the weather was getting colder.
Her hair fell on her shoulder and her lips were red as always. She looked breathtaking and very beautiful even as she sat there silently.
However as he left, he felt she looked familiar as though he has seen her somewhere. Adeline watched the waiter leave and knew he’d recognize her sooner as the abandoned daughter of the King’s.
When her father disowned her, it was publicized all over the world and country Urosayiia’a was included. However, she was curious as to why her mother wanted her in Urosayiia’a.
Adeline recalled leaving the King’s mansion and her mother running after her. She hurriedly shook a large envelope in Adeline’s hands and ran back. Nonetheless, Adeline could remember her mother's sorrowful expression and sad smile.
As she watched her mother leave, She opened the envelope and all she saw was an address in Urosayiia’a and a café’s name.
Having no friends and no family in Belkesia, she travelled to Urosayiia’a that day where she was welcomed by an entourage of bodyguards.
She remembered them calling her “young miss” and how she stood bewildered as they protected her from the crowd of reporters.
It's been a week and everything still feels surreal to her. The life she thought she had, the family she thought would protect her and the man she thought loves her, all came crashing in a day and made her realize how vain her life was.
The memories which were always smiling at her turned out to be sour. Her sister who always bullied her but protected her in public turned out to be a white lotus and the man she thought would stay with her for a long time ended up becoming a scheming bastard who was only after her family’s wealth.
As she thought of this, her phone rang. “Mira”, she said as she picked the call. “finally, you picked my call” the other voice said worriedly, “are you okay? Your brother and I have been worried sick”, Mira said and Adeline chuckled. “Don’t worry about me. I’m doing well”, Adeline king replied.
The other voice said nothing for awhile before the phone was given to a second person. “Adeline”, Jason called his sister and she sobbed.
Her brother was never around but he was the only person who understood her and always stood besides her. “Mom says you are in Urosayiia’a. Are you okay. Do you need me to get you back”, Jason King asked worriedly but all he met was Adeline’s quiet sob.
He waited till she was done sobbing and when he was sure, he waited silently to hear her voice. “I am fine Jason. I can do it”, Adeline reassuring him.
Jason said nothing to his sister’s reassurance and ended the call. Adeline sighed as she rearranged her hair and makeup.
She could understand Jason’s worry and she was also scared. She never knew her mother who was always bullied by her father came from a wealthy family and this family had a tradition of arranged marriages and non of the daughters who were married out ever survived.
Adeline finally understood why her mum, Beatrice lived with Timor King for years despite his continuous abuses. Yet, she was different.
She refused to be treated like garbage and thrown aside by the King’s. She was scared of Urosayiia’a, regardless it was better than being treated as thrash in Belkesia and living her life in constant rejection.
Adeline wrapped the windbreaker tightly around her body and at this moment the door to the café opened. She was seated beside the window which was far from the door.
The jingling sound from the door attracted her attention and she looked up. She gasped as she saw the man who just entered and as he walked towards her, her heart thumped rapidly and louder.
“Miss Adeline King”, the man said standing before her and her eyes met his as she looked up. “I am Ethan Luo”, he introduced himself.
