The Event

The launch event for Horizon & Co.’s Valentine’s campaign was held at a sleek, glass- walled venue overlooking the city. Clients, media, and high-profile guests filled the room, sipping wine, admiring the brand displays, and chatting in elegant clusters. Samantha stood by one of the campaign booths, heart beating fast—not from nerves this time, but excitement. Her design, her concept of self-love, was finally out in the world. “This is all you,” Enzo whispered beside her, dressed sharply in a black suit, but somehow still looking soft whenever he looked her way. “You should be proud.” “I am,” she replied, her voice calm, steady. “Thank you… for letting it be real.” Just then, one of the assistants approached. “Sir Enzo, they’re ready for you at the media panel.” He gave Samantha a look. “You’re coming with me.” “Wait, me?” “You’re the face of this campaign,” he said simply. “Let them see the heart behind it.” The panel went well. Samantha answered questions gracefully, and Enzo stepped back enough to let her shine. The audience clapped when she spoke about redefining Valentine’s Day as a day to celebrate self-worth, not just romantic love. Then, during the cocktail mingling hour, the storm came. Samantha had just stepped aside to get a drink when she heard that voice. “Well, well,” Marco said, glass in hand, arm around a petite woman in a tight red dress. “Didn’t think I’d see you here.” She froze for a second, then turned slowly. “Marco.” “Oh,” he gestured dramatically to his companion, “this is Lianne. She’s fun. Not like someone I used to date who didn’t even like being kissed.” He laughed loudly, obviously trying to get the attention of others nearby. Samantha clenched her jaw. “Grow up.” Marco leaned closer, smug. “You’re still the same, huh? All quiet and boring. Amazing how you ended up in this event—must’ve been a pity invite.” Before she could reply, a voice cut in from behind her. Firm. Calm. Dangerous. “She wasn’t invited,” Enzo said, stepping forward. “She was requested. By me.” Marco blinked. “And if I recall correctly,” Enzo continued, “it was her design, her pitch, and her voice that everyone applauded tonight. Not yours.” Marco scoffed, trying to save face. “And who are you? Her boyfriend?” Enzo’s gaze didn’t waver. “I’m the CEO of this company. And the man who knows exactly how valuable she is—not just professionally, but as a person.” Silence fell around them. Even Lianne slowly stepped away from Marco, clearly embarrassed. Samantha stood still, stunned. Her chest rose and fell as the weight of the moment sank in. Enzo turned to her gently. “You okay?” She nodded slowly. “I am now.” They walked away together, side by side, leaving the past exactly where it belonged— behind them.
