The shattered pieces of her phone lay scattered across the garden path. " Is that true Vanessa ?" Adrian's voice cut through the silence. Vanessa looked at the shattered phone, then at him. Her eyes filled with tears. "I caught her recording me. I don't know why. I think she wanted to twist my words." Valeria stared at her in disbelief. "Twist your words?.You confessed! You admitted everything!" Vanessa hid behind Adrian. "I don't know what she's talking about." Valeria felt her temper flare. "You lying—" "Enough." Adrian's voice was sharp. He looked down at the broken phone then at Valeria. "So this is what you've been reduced to. . You really are desperate." Valeria laughed bitterly. "I'm desperate because I'm telling the truth. Can't you see ". "No. You're desperate because you're running out of lies." She looked at him for a long moment. Then something inside her settled. She was done. No more explaining , no more begging. No more trying to make a man believe what he had already decided to reject. She looked him straight in the eyes. "I want a divorce." There was only silence after her words. Adrian was taken aback . Even Vanessa looked surprised. Adrian's face became spiteful "...No." Valeria wanted to scream "Why Adrian ? You hate me. You think I killed your brother. You don't even want to look at me. Then why won't you let me go? Haven't you tormented me enough ?!! ". He took a slow step toward her. "Because divorce is freedom. And you don't deserve freedom." Her eyes glistened. "I don't love you anymore." He went completely still. Something cold flashed across Adrian's face. "Good. "Love was never part of this. This is solely to punish you ." Valeria nodded slowly. "Then listen carefully. I'm done begging. I'm done crying..And I'm done waiting for you to believe me. One day you'll discover the truth. When that day comes don't expect forgiveness." "I'm done explaining. Done begging. Done trying to make you believe me." She slipped her wedding ring from her finger it was akin to removing a limb. The diamond sparkled beneath the afternoon sun. "I want a divorce. " she repeated tears filled her eyes as she said it. She searched his face for the boy she'd loved since she was eight years old. He wasn't there. "I kept telling myself grief had changed you," she whispered. "I defended you. I thought if I loved you enough, he'd come back." A tear rolled down her cheek. "I was wrong. The Adrian I loved is already dead." For the first time, something flickered across his face. She placed the wedding ring on the table. "I don't want to be Mrs. Knight anymore. I don't want your money, this mansion, or your love. I just want my life back." Adrian picked up the ring and closed his hand around it. "You don't get your life back. You lost that the day my brother died." Valeria laughed, "You've convinced yourself I'm the villain because it's easier than admitting you never knew your own brother." His jaw tightened. "Watch your mouth." "No. For months, I've begged you to listen. But you never wanted the truth. You wanted someone to hate. So you chose me." His expression darkened. "Enough." "No!" Her voice rang through the mansion. "I didn't kill Ethan! I didn't love Ethan! I loved you!" The words echoed off the marble walls. "You were my dream. My first love. My future. And you destroyed everything!" She turned toward the front door. "I'm leaving." Two bodyguards blocked her path. She stared at them, then back at Adrian. "What is this?" "You said you wanted a divorce and I refused what makes you think you can leave?! We're in this together till we die !". A laugh escaped her lips. She was going crazy She looked around the mansion—the paintings, the crystal vases, the grand piano. Her prison. Without warning, she grabbed a porcelain vase and hurled it across the room It exploded against the wall. The servants screamed. Another vase. Crash. "You ruined my life!" Crash. "You stole my career!" Crash. "You called me a murderer!" Crash. "I didn't kill your brother!" She swept everything off a nearby table. Glass shattered across the marble floor. A painting crashed to the ground. Years of love, humiliation, and pain exploded all at once. She pointed a trembling finger at Adrian. "You wanted to break me. Congratulations... you finally did." She turned and ran upstairs. A second later, the sound of glass shattering echoed from the master bedroom. Then another. And another. The servants looked at Adrian in panic. "Sir... Mrs. Knight is destroying the room house. She's gone wild !!".
