The legal call lasted four hours. Claire fell asleep on the couch somewhere around midnight, her own laptop open on a half finished email to her studio contractor, and woke at four to find Nathaniel's jacket draped over her and the apartment quiet. He was at the dining table, still in his shirt, tie gone, two empty coffee cups and a legal pad covered in his precise handwriting in front of him.
