The change was so swift that it was hard to ignore. One second Lexi was smiling and the next, the smile had slipped off, leaving room for a latent shock. David and Becky looked just as poleaxed.
"You guys know each other?"
"No!" Lexi answered so sharply that it was obvious she was lying. "I guess we've seen each other somewhere. I mean, maybe."
David raised a vague eyebrow at Lexi before seeming to recover enough to smile. "Hey, cousin, you have great taste."
Kris forced on a smile, wondering why his cousin was playing along to Lexi's act.
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you, Lexi." David said, stretching out his hand tentatively.
"Likewise." Lexi said, shaking his hand and Becky's, though the bitterness in her tone suggested anything but.
