"Of course we are on our way. Learn to exercise some patience mother."
The word 'mother' slammed an inexplicably relief into Lexi that made her grimace. Why the hell did the thought of her boss having a girlfriend affect her more than it should?
"We'll be there in about an hour or so... Yes... See you." Kris hanged up and turned to her. "That was my mum, she's so eager to meet you she's getting impatient."
"I actually thought she was your girlfriend from the way you greeted her." Lexi mentioned, unable to help it. What the hell was wrong with her?
"Oh, about the 'honey'? I take after my dad a lot physically. My mum and I liked to tease him whenever she got upset with him by pretending I was her husband instead, and it stuck, I guess."
That made Lexi smile. Obviously, he had a beautiful relationship with his mother.
"Besides," He frowned a little, glancing warily at the driver as the car begun to move, then seemingly decided the man was no harm. "If I had a girlfriend, I wouldn't be paying you to pretend to be one."
"Of course." She muttered. Did he really have to refer to what she was doing like it was a job?
Kris glanced at her, lips parted like he wanted to say something, but he closed them on what seemed to be on second thoughts. Instead, he brought his laptop from his laptop bag and powered it. Lexi was too unnerved by it to ask him what was on his mind.
Silence settled in the car for some minutes. Lexi stared out through the window as alignments and crescents of houses, restaurants and shops zoomed by. Somewhere ahead of them, she noticed a small crowd had formed and there seemed to be a bit of a commotion going on.
"Have you always been like this?" Kris finally asked, looking up from his device, seemingly unable to contain his curiosity any longer.
"Like what?" She asked, still looking out the window, dread zapping through her at the leading question.
"Have you always been about casual flings and one night stands? Never been in a relationship?"
Tightening her jaw, Lexi whipped her eyes from the window to him in a second. "And this has something to do with our deal how?" Her voice came out much sharper than she'd intended.
Kris glanced at her briefly, seemingly surprised by her barbed response. He, however, said nothing as he focused on whatever he had opened on the laptop.
The silence which followed was quite awkward this time. As they passed by where the crowd had gathered, Lexi saw that the crowd was warranted by two fighters who refused to be separated. The fight looked rather brutal, and both the men were bleeding.
The scenery begun changing as they reached a highway. That was when Kris finally spoke, easing out the tension a bit. "We have to put up a really good act. I can't have my mother seeing through us."
Smiling slightly, Lexi nodded. "Of course, baby. That's what you are to me now.”
He flashed her a dazzling smile before quickly refocusing on the laptop. "Exactly, sugar.” he hesitantly added after some seconds. "You do understand that pretending means we will have to kiss and do all that lovers do in front of my family, right?"
A frisson shot through her at the thought of kissing his tasty-looking lips, of him holding her and of her feeling the delicious weight of his body against hers. Her n*****s puckered against her bra, and she clenched her thighs as she felt a ripple through her core.
Kris looked at her, surprise clouding his expression, and in a very rare moment of modesty, she looked away, feeling her cheeks burn up at the thought of him realizing that his mere words aroused her.
She wasn't going to deny her attraction to her boss. He was handsome and gorgeous and had a great s*x appeal. But she knew sleeping with him would cost her her job, and Lord knew it would take her ages to get another one which paid as good as this one did.
“So Lexi, you have a sister, huh? Tell me about her.” Kris spoke, shutting his laptop.
Thankfully, the conversation flew smoothly from there.

The driver found space and pulled the car to a stop among an alignment of cars that had to belong to his relatives.
"Stay put." He told the woman beside him when Max turned off the ignition. “Max, please get our luggages will you?”
“Of course.” Max smiled.
Taking off his seat belt, he got out of the car, rounded the car to her side, and opened the door for her.
"Let me." He offered, stretching his hand towards her. He'd never been a romantic person, and he would be lying if he said this didn't feel awkward. Not to mention it's all pretense.
Lexi rolled her eyes before offering her hand to him, her grey eyes filled with uncertainty even though she obviously tried for a bold front. He helped her out of the car as her eyes scanned the plush environment.
"Oh my God. This is beautiful. Your parents have a..."
Kris caught himself staring at her for the umpteenth time that day and quickly looked away, nodding. "It is. One of my uncles actually designed it for my dad. He's a great architect."
He glanced at the woman in front of him, once again struck by the inherent beauty she possessed. Her brunette hair sparkled under the sun, combed to one side of her shoulders, revealing the delicate lines of her neck. Her caramel skin glowed, and his mouth suddenly ached to caress it.
Okay, what the hell?
He quickly gave himself a mental reprimand. What the heck was getting over him? Before, he'd thought of Lexi sexually–a straight man had to be weird not to–but until they'd talked at the restaurant and he'd realized that her personal lie was not just about her promiscuity, the thoughts had never carried on for so long.
Definitely not into his dreams like had happened last night.
Yep, he'd had a f*****g dream about her. The two of them were in the wild depths of passion. The eeriness of it had startled him awake almost immediately the dream had begun. It had to have lasted for only some seconds, but it'd startled him none the less.
He couldn't be thinking of f*****g her. And a relationship was definitely out of the question. Apart from it being unprofessional, Alexa was too wild for him. He was completely out of her league and there was no way he would ever be able to tame her even if he wanted to.
Max had opened the booth of the car and taken out their mini-suitcase. Shutting the booth, he set to stroll away when Kris called out to him. “Max? Can we talk?”
In the car, he and Lexi had talked about way too much. Too much to make it obvious to anyone one that their supposed relationship was a sham. Max was a knew driver and someone he didn't know. He had to make sure the man kept his silence.
“Sure, Sir. . . uh, Kris.” The signature smile was still etched on the man's face.
Kris stepped towards him. “Look I know you heard a lot of things being said about...”
“You don't need to worry, Kris.” Max cut him off with a pat on his shoulder. “Your secrets are safe with me. You can think I didn't even hear anything!”
Kris smiled, grateful. “Thank you.” He turned to go and paused. “Uh, could you bring our luggage in later? I want to go inside the house first.”
“Sure. No problem, Kris.”
Turning to Lexi, Kris arched his left arm in an arrow style towards her. "Shall we?"
Lexi wrapped her delicate fingers around his biceps, and he slanted his hand on his stomach as he led her towards the edifice. His parents mansion hadn't changed much. From the rows and columns of hedges that wove along the paths to the astounding water fountain Lexi couldn't stop staring at.
When they reached the doorsteps, laughter could be heard echoing all the way from inside. He turned to Lexi. "Are you ready?"
"Ready." She answered with a small smile.
Kris pressed the bell, tapping his foot nervously as they waited. If he wanted his mother off his neck, he couldn't afford her seeing through his pretence with Lexi. Some seconds later, the door opened to reveal a middle aged woman. Her name was Chleo, and she'd been a help at the house for as long as he could remember.
"My boy." She beamed, pulling him into a hug. "I'm so happy to see you." Pulling back, she swept her gaze across Lexi's features and grinned. "My lady, you are welcome."
Lexi thanked her. "Come, come in, dearies. You mother is getting quite impatient." Chleo revealed with a teasing smile, and Kris chuckled as he led Lexi inside.
Okay fake relationship. Ready. Set. Go
