Chapter One: Skyla

252 Words
Skyla paced the cage back a forwards, her tail twitching restlessly. Her father watched her from where he was laying down. 'Settle down, Skyla.' He ordered her telepathically. A low growl rumbled from her orange-and-black striped tiger's chest. She didn't want to settle down. She was bored and tired of being caged. Skyla had been living in the zoo since she was a little child. Among those who had escaped capture by the humans, the royal family had also been kept safe by the other wild shifters. But one day, when Skyla was only 6 years old, the humans had finally managed to capture them. Not that the humans understood that. All they knew was that they had captured yet another group of shapeshifters. If anything Skyla was one of the lucky ones. She had been kept with her family, and allowed to grow up relatively unmolested with her parents. Now Skyla was 15 years old and her young, restless, teenage spirit was dying to be free of this cage she was in. Her parents would watch her pace restlessly around the enclosure day in and day out, but they were helpless to do anything about it. They had both come to terms with the fact that this would be the rest of their lives, and they  were just hoping that their free-spirited daughter would be able to do the same. For now though, Skyla would continue to pace endlessly, wishing and hoping for a way out to be revealed to her.
