Chapter 2: The Queen

863 Words
As Adair led me through the vast scenery of the gigantic tree they seemed to live in, I took in all of the beautiful features of this place. As we arrived at the small room his Mother was in, I noticed she was sitting in front of the mirror of her vanity. She was brushing her long pale green hair. She had on a gown that went to her feet. It was white, with flowers embroidered everywhere. She turned to me with her dark brown eyes and scanned me with her soft gaze. That was when I started to notice her features. Her skin was a dark tan color, and she had soft features, as well as soft hands that held the black and pastel green hair brush. She gestured her son out of the room and pointed at the corner of the bed for me to sit. I put my bag down as well as un-arming myself before sitting on the corner of the large bed. It had a white headboard with a matching bottom and front, with white sheets that complimented everything in the room. I sat down and the guard shut the door behind Zair, she turned to me and finally spoke. "What is it you've come for, my dear?" "Well- I.." I was flabbergasted by her voice, it was so soothing, and yet it sounded like someone in such pain... She looked at me with a sincere look and ripped through the silence once again. "I know... I sound like someone on their deathbed, don't I?" She asked. "I'm sorry if I made it obvious that I knew.." I spoke in reply. "Well, the truth is I'm just sick, my dear, nothing to worry about there. I don't think it is my time to come to your kingdom just yet." I gave her a small smile and cleared my throat, ready to ask her. But a wave of emotion swept over me, like a wave hitting the side of a ship during a thunderstorm. It was something about that last sentence... My kingdom... My parents... A tear threatened to fall from my left eye, but I fought against it with everything in me. "What's wrong darling? It's okay to cry, you can tell me why afterward." She stood from her stool next to the mirror and went over to the edge of the bed where I was sitting. She knelt down and grabbed my hand in hers. She pressed her head into my lap and started singing... I wondered why she was singing, but I felt myself beginning to let go... I gave into the need to cry and sobbed in her arms as she wrapped them around me and continued her melody. I put my hands on the top of her shoulders as she sat next to me and tugged me into her lap like a small child. I cried and cried until I think I eventually fell asleep, or at least I think, I was still awake but couldn't move, I was too tired to move, I lay there about to fall into the depths of sleep in her arms until I see Adair kneel next us on the floor. He holds his arms out for me which I can only assume he wants me to grab. I look at him with half-lidded eyes and attempt to reach out and grab with my hands. but The queen lifts me up and hands me to him. He carries me bridal style all the way to his room. he puts me down on the one side of the bed, I was lying against the headboard with my back to it and my legs on the bed. he takes off m shoes and socks as well as my belt. he takes my hair down out of the braid I had it in and puts it up in a long ponytail before wrapping the hair around the type and making it a bun. he lays me down on the bed and covers me up before going into the small room attached to his room. he comes out in a light brown tunic and puts his mid-length hair up into a small bun. I was ready to fall asleep already. but he turned off the lights and opened to curtains to reveal it was nighttime already. then he climbed into the bed and started singing to me. I think I crawled into his lap and just laid there falling deeper into his spell until I was finally asleep. I woke up the next morning to Adair sleeping peacefully while I was wrapped in his arms. I considered this fair since he had to carry me back he deserves some comfort. It is only now that I pay attention to his features. He looks soft like his mother but considering he carried me all the way to his room easily meant he was strong. he had the same color combinations as his mother did, except he had a white streak in his hair. I only realized I was staring until I was also being studied by dark brown eyes identical to his mother's.
