Chapter 17 Steinbacher's notes spread in the wooden lounge of the Golf Club. The subdued chatter of the guests sank into this light sound carpet that gave a sense of joy and light nostalgia, in perfect 1930s style. Dixon loved those quiet evenings, spent drinking and chatting with his old friends. No challenging game, just relaxation and gossip. He smoothed the long white favorites on the big face and nodded to the boy who served at the bar. He approached: "The usual gentleman?" he asked. "Double ration tonight" said Dixon. The boy walked away and went to the bar to make a double gin grog. At that moment Webb entered the Golf Club room. He was expected: Dixon waved to him and he came to sit at his table. "Wonderful evening, isn't it?" Said Dixon. The other looked at him disoriented:
