“My apology Alpha Walter, but we need your urgent opinion, sir,” Rafael responded with his alpha intense glare, he shivered for a second, he waited a moment longer as the alpha went to the nearby oak tree and settle the stallion.
Walter waited for a clearer awareness of his beta's sudden arrival. He fears that this was not promising news. However, he sees that Rafael hadn't come so nervous and was compelled to act as such, as if by an inner voice that whispered to him only on a subconscious level, or as if he were a machine responding to a pre-programmed course of action. He could read his mind, being an alpha has its perks, nonetheless, he wouldn't read him... just yet.
“What is it?” His face was grim. He looked exhausted and had attained a new hardness there in the last few hours.
“There are three rogues in the area, sir, unfortunately, all of them died at the end of the border near the highway.”
“Dead by my pack?” Alpha's eyes flared off, the only thing he hated the most is killing without a second thought, he may be cruel and feared by everyone but he won't let any of his pack go on murdering some rogue without him knowing.
“No sir, not our pack, nor it was any from the neighboring pack but...”
“And so why is it my problem again? If those rogue were dead and not my pack's involvements, then it's none of my bloody business, am I clear?”
“Yes, alpha!” Replied Rafael.
“Good, now what's with you two?” His forehead furrowed. Looking at the two shock wide eyes of Rafael and Josh as they both winced. “The ...the human sir, I guessed she fainted.”
“What human?” He interrupted and abruptly remembers the woman on his cottage,
“Oh, s**t!” He began to panic, his worries grow stronger when he remembers her, he curses himself for forgetting. His panicked mind gives way to his worries. He wanted to jump right out down the wooden fence. And he wonders why he feels just like a child again, terrified. The constricted emotions grow as if just the air suffocated him. Running, he hurriedly went into the cottage while the two strode on his back exchanging knowing glances.
The wind was screeching in the great bare trees of the wood as if it were some wild dark grove deep in a forgotten land warning them for what to come. Another second passed, "The f**k is wrong with her" Walter exclaimed, his tone serious.
Rafael took a glance at his retreating back. His alpha's fist was clenched, his neck pulled tight. He was never an anxious type of man yet, his action said otherwise, and it surprised Rafael to know how human-like the Alpha was and not the usually agitated asshole that he was. He wasn't looking forward to his wrath. Rafael knows this woman was something special to make him this anxious and maybe she meant something to their alpha. He slowed down and heeds, matching his pace, waiting for him to make the next move.
"f**k this door." Walter blurted out and cursed the door as he hurriedly continues to walk in towards the unconscious body of the woman.
On the right corner of the cottage, near the windows, the woman lay unconscious then suddenly shivers and gasps for air to breathe and held her chest
“Call the pack doctor now!” Shouted Walter towards his beta, the latter run and change into his wolf form mid-air and continue to run in a blur, headed to the pack doctor while Josh went to guard outside and started pacing around.
Vivian sucked at the air like it had suddenly become thick and was now almost too difficult to draw in. She became deaf to the soothing voice of the man who scooped her from the wooden floor and brought her to his bedroom and lay her onto his bed. Vivian's thoughts were hazy, a minute passed, yet it seems like an eternity, and the only thought that kept drumming through her head is she was going to die, and soon she howls in genuine misery.
Every minute her heart beats slower and every second her slow death was close. The anguish and burning on her wrist haven't ceased, but after being in agony for like an hour, her mind was no longer her own. The hardest part was the burn took her to the verge of consciousness but never let her fall over into oblivion. She could still feel her body yet she couldn't move it.
A harsh bolt shoots from her head and broadens to her heart, causing her to arch from the bed. Her exhausted voice uncovers itself a scream that leaves her fragile force. Her hands clutch her chest when it beats harder than before. She pulls her fists away and shouts in horror at the sight of her veins turning purple then she succumbed to her consciousness.
Walter began to worry, he saw her bitten mark on her wrist with purpled veins encircling her arms and appears like it was moving upwards. Regardless, she stopped convulsing and lay perfectly still. Her veins were scarcely and slightly glowing from inside.
Alpha Walter regained his senses and his reasoning, unable to understand or fathom what just happened. He spoke up but found no words. He was watching her intently, as if to make a point, but felt too confused to even manage a word, he took a deep breath and speculated that this woman was different. In any under probabilities, if a human was bitten by a werewolf there were only two likelihood ending, first, the saliva of a werewolf won't make them like them immediately, those Hollywood portrayals of werewolves was beyond absurd in many ways.
In the vast majority of cases, if a person was bitten by a werewolf they would react in the same way they would from a bite by any wild wolf, at first, it would itch, or a sore red mark may appear at the site of the bite. Then after a week, more or less the person would then suffer from the slow transitions in their DNA, changing them into one of them yet gradually. And sometimes it would take them three weeks or two months before the said person would notice their sudden physical changes or on their fives senses. However, before then the pack doctor would have explained everything, so the personal well-being and needs of that person would be provided properly and taken care of. Second, if the human DNA wouldn't accept the werewolf DNA which is often the case, it would lead them to their death, or a simple rabies vaccine would help but won't change them into one of their kind.
But with this human, she was bitten yet, it was only twenty-four hours, how strange indeed. He knew about the bite mark on her wrist yesterday and suspected that she was bitten by some rogue because he could smell their scent on her. And the reason for him not killing her in the woods was because of it, he realized either she will die from the bite or transform. But he wasn't expecting her to go through a sudden transmission this prematurely.
Alpha Walter began to pace around while waiting for the pack doctor. He gave it another effort to better understand this unusual event. Then he began to curse and release all of his pent-up emotions of dread, erupting in a series of angry insults. What if the woman won't survive the changes?
“What if...shit!” He swore. It's not his loss anyway, right? Nor it's none of his bloody business. He thought. "f**k it."
