As I started discussing in the previous chapter, other races are welcome, as well as freedom for character creation. Multiclassing should be accepted and encouraged. After all, Batman is nothing more than a level 10 warrior/level 10 rogue! And his intelligence is very high, probably 20!
Gradually, I will talk about the general adaptations of each class here for the current world. For example, I see the warrior as a soldier. The rogue could be a ninja or an assassin from some criminal organization. The bard could be a musician (who gained supernatural powers by finding a magical instrument, haha). A wizard, sorcerer, or any being who casts magic by themselves should be considered super powerful... After all, you don't see anyone casting fireballs around the corner!
In the future, I can put the adaptations of each class here... including the "artificer," which is like an RPG Tony Stark, already being in later chapters as the "scientist."
To facilitate adaptation, here is some guidance and examples of heroes and their classes:
- Captain America - warrior or cleric
- Thor - Cleric or paladin
- Winter Soldier - warrior
- Doctor Strange - wizard
- Iron Fist - monk
- Scarlet Witch - sorceress or witch
- Hulk - barbarian
- Constantine - warlock
- Green Arrow - ranger
- Catwoman - rogue
- Poison Ivy - druid
- Black Canary - bard
Batman - Conquest Paladin + Rogue (Assassin but maybe doesn't kill... maybe...)
Also, check Chapter 8 for the use of firearms and futuristic weapons in campaigns (actually, I just copied it from the Dungeon Master's Guide, haha - Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V)!
As for skills, add (to the list of tools and the like):
- Science: When knowledge of applied chemistry, biology, and physics is required, knowledge of study and teaching, the Dungeon Master may call for an Intelligence (Science) check.
- Computers: In the contemporary world, everyone knows how to deal with digital interfaces, whether on computers, phones, or even vehicles with touch screens. Now, when deciding to look for evidence on an unknown cell phone or hack a server to leave a magnetic door open, an Intelligence (Computers) check is necessary.
- Technology: This is the applied knowledge of electronic and mechanical relationships in the world. Generally, it involves any technological devices, whether to understand their operation or to learn how to deal with them without a digital interface.
The Dungeon Master and players can add or modify other skills, such as:
- Engineering (specify: mechanical, computational...);
- Legislation (law);
- Piloting (choose the vehicle);
- Others... Specify, such as psychology or the like.
I also recommend using the gritty realism rule contained in the Dungeon Master's Guide. Considering a short rest as 8 hours and a long rest as 1 week (at least for hit points).
You can also use the critical hit table. Nothing better than losing an arm to have that excuse to get a bionic arm later!
For the adventure described in Chapter 6 (currently hidden until playtesting), the Dungeon Master can further modify the setting to the Marvel Universe, and the following characters can be used instead of creating heroes by the players:
1) Cyclops - Soldier (base class: fighter) - lvl 1 - power: energy blast or Deadpool - Soldier - lvl 1 - power: regeneration
2) Rogue - Rogue lvl 1 - power: power and energy theft or Quicksilver - Rogue lvl 1 - power: Super speed
3) Colossus - Brute (base class: barbarian) - lvl 1 - power: tough skin or Wolverine - Brute - lvl 1 - power: regeneration
4) Jean Grey - Psychic (mystic class or pick psychic power and generalist class - lvl 1) or Scarlet Witch - Sorceress - lvl 1.
