Chapter 15Most of my morning was spent interviewing a couple from Edmond, Oklahoma, who wanted to provide a loving home for a child in need. They had four biological children in elementary school and, as they put it, ‘had more love to share.’
“Why foster care?” I asked them.
The husband piped up, “If we can save a kid’s life, we want to do that.”
“Plus, we don’t want to deal with any birth mom issues, you know what I mean?” the wife chimed in.
I took a cleansing breath. This was not about me, and these people had no idea who they were talking to or what they were saying. I had to remind myself I was the advocate, educator, and expert in the room.
