CELINE’S POV The walk back to Lucian's mansion was quieter than usual. Neither of us spoke much after the encounter with Andre. My mind kept replaying everything he had said. The elders. The prey hunters. The fact that someone had apparently been searching for people like me. And worst of all... The shadows. I still couldn't forget the look on Lucian's face when his own shadow had thrown him across the room. Every time I thought about it, a knot formed in my stomach. Did I really do that? By the time we returned to the mansion, the sunless sky of the vampire realm had darkened further. Lucian led me into a private study lined with bookshelves that stretched from floor to ceiling. He closed the door behind us. Then he sighed. "We need to talk." I sat down across from him.
