The Power Inside Her

853 Words
The First Wolf is awakening.” The Moon Priestess’s trembling voice echoed through the destroyed hall. Nobody spoke. Nobody moved. Evelyn remained on her knees, struggling to breathe while purple energy flickered around her body like living flames. Lucien still held her carefully in his arms. But even he looked tense now. Damon stared at Evelyn as though he no longer recognized her. And deep in his chest… Fear mixed with regret. The weak omega he rejected hours ago was becoming something terrifying. Outside, the sounds of battle continued across the pack territory. But inside the Moon Hall— The real danger was Evelyn. “I don’t understand,” Evelyn whispered shakily. “What is the First Wolf?” The Moon Priestess slowly stood. Tears filled her old eyes. “The first creature ever blessed by the Moon Goddess,” she answered softly. “The origin of all werewolves.” Evelyn’s heart pounded painfully. “That’s impossible.” “No,” Lucien said quietly. “It is not.” Everyone looked at him. The Lycan King’s expression darkened. “For centuries, legends spoke of a child born carrying the soul of the First Wolf.” His golden eyes locked onto Evelyn. “A being powerful enough to unite every pack… or destroy them.” Evelyn shook her head immediately. “No. You’re wrong. I’m nobody.” Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her chest again. “Agh!” Purple light exploded from her body. BOOM! The floor cracked beneath her knees. Pack members screamed and stumbled backward in fear. Damon moved instantly toward her. “Evelyn!” The moment he touched her arm— Pain shot through him violently. Damon hissed sharply and stepped back. Smoke rose from his hand. Shock filled the room. Alpha Damon Blackwood—one of the strongest Alphas alive—had just been injured by Evelyn’s power. Kael suddenly returned through the shattered windows in human form, covered in blood. “The hunter escaped,” he growled. Then his eyes landed on Evelyn glowing with purple energy. A slow grin spread across his face. “She gets more interesting every minute.” Damon glared at him. “This isn’t a game.” Kael crossed his arms lazily. “I never said it was.” Evelyn suddenly gasped. The voice returned again inside her head. Stronger this time. They sealed me away. Images flashed before her eyes— A giant silver wolf chained beneath a glowing moon. Ancient warriors kneeling. Fire raining from the sky. And three shadows standing beside her. Three Alphas. Evelyn grabbed her head in pain. “Make it stop…” Lucien immediately knelt beside her. “Look at me.” His deep voice cut through the chaos. Evelyn slowly lifted her eyes toward him. “Breathe,” he ordered gently. Something about his voice calmed the storm inside her instantly. The purple energy slowly faded. Everyone in the hall released a breath of relief. But Damon noticed something that made his blood run cold. Lucien was able to calm her power. Why? Then the Moon Priestess spoke again. “The bond.” Damon’s eyes narrowed sharply. “What bond?” The old woman hesitated. Then she looked directly at Lucien. “The Lycan King already shares a spiritual connection with her.” Silence. Kael blinked in surprise. Damon’s face darkened dangerously. Evelyn looked confused. “What does that mean?” Lucien remained calm. But his golden eyes became unreadable. “It means,” Damon said coldly, “he knows more about you than he admits.” Kael smirked slowly. “Oh, now this is becoming fun.” Lucien ignored them both. Instead, he stood and faced Evelyn fully. “You are no longer safe here.” Damon growled instantly. “She stays in my pack.” “The rogues found her in one night,” Lucien replied coldly. “Soon the vampire clans, witches, and rival Alphas will come too.” The entire hall became tense. Because everyone knew he was right. News of Evelyn’s power would spread fast. And powerful people would kill to possess her. Evelyn’s voice trembled. “What do they want from me?” Lucien stepped closer. “You.” Before she could ask another question— A warrior suddenly rushed inside covered in blood. “Alpha Damon!” Damon turned sharply. “What happened?” The warrior looked terrified. “We found bodies in the forest…” His voice shook. “They were our patrol wolves.” Kael frowned. “Rogues?” The warrior swallowed hard. “No.” Fear spread through the room before he finished speaking. “Their hearts were ripped out.” Even Lucien’s expression darkened. Because only one creature killed like that. Vampires. Then the warrior whispered the words that made Evelyn’s blood turn cold. “And they left a message written in blood.” Damon’s jaw clenched. “What message?” The warrior looked directly at Evelyn. “‘The Moon Chosen belongs to the Vampire King.’” Silence consumed the hall. And somewhere deep in the darkness beyond the forest… Red eyes opened slowly.
