The Immortal Alpha

The wind howled across the mountains. Evelyn stood frozen at the edge of the cliff. Below them, the ancient temple glowed beneath the moonlight. And at its entrance stood a man with silver eyes. Waiting. Watching. Smiling. Aiden's warning echoed inside her mind. "If you see a man with silver eyes..." "Run." The figure slowly took a step forward. The moment his foot touched the ground— BOOOOM! An invisible wave of power exploded outward. The mountain shook violently. Several Moon Guardians stumbled. Even Damon and Kael were forced backward. Only Lucien and the First Wolf remained standing. The silver-eyed man smiled wider. "Interesting." His voice was calm. Gentle. Almost friendly. Yet every instinct screamed danger. The First Wolf growled. A deep, ancient growl. One filled with pure hatred. The man's eyes shifted toward the spectral wolf. "Still alive?" The First Wolf's fur bristled. "Unfortunately for you." The man's laughter echoed across the valley. Evelyn had never seen the First Wolf hate anyone before. But it hated this man. Truly hated him. The giant Moon Guardian lowered its head. "The Godslayer." The title sent chills through everyone. The man sighed dramatically. "I always disliked that nickname." He began walking toward them. Slowly. Confidently. Like nothing in the world could threaten him. Maybe nothing could. The First Wolf stepped forward. "Evelyn." Its voice was serious. "Do not approach him." The Godslayer laughed. "You're making me sound dangerous." Nobody laughed. Because he was. The man stopped several yards away. His silver eyes settled on Evelyn. For several seconds, he simply stared. Then he smiled. "So you're the last heir." Evelyn's skin crawled. There was something wrong about him. Something hidden beneath the calm exterior. Something ancient. Predatory. "Who are you?" she asked. The man bowed slightly. "My name once was Orion." Silence. The name felt familiar. Like an old memory she couldn't quite reach. Orion straightened. "The first Alpha." Damon cursed under his breath. Kael looked ready to attack. Lucien's expression darkened. The first Alpha. The ancestor of every Alpha bloodline. The man responsible for the death of the Moon Goddess. Orion sighed. "You all look disappointed." Cassian rolled his eyes. "You murdered a goddess." "Allegedly." The vampire stared at him. "You literally did it." "Fair point." The casual response made everyone even more uncomfortable. Then Orion's smile faded. His silver eyes locked onto Evelyn. "You have your mother's eyes." The words hit like lightning. Evelyn froze. "You knew my mother?" Orion nodded. "Very well." The First Wolf growled. "Do not speak her name." Orion ignored it. "Lyriana was brilliant." Sadness flickered across his face. "For a human." The insult immediately angered Evelyn. Before she could respond, the pendant around her neck began glowing violently. Silver light erupted. The map disappeared. Instead, a single sentence appeared. WELCOME HOME, HEIR. The temple doors began opening. Ancient gears groaned. Moonlight poured from within. The Heart of the Moon was calling her. Orion looked toward the opening doors. His smile vanished. For the first time— He seemed nervous. Evelyn noticed immediately. "You've never entered the temple." Orion's eyes narrowed. "Very observant." The realization hit her. The immortal Alpha had been guarding the temple for thousands of years. But he had never gone inside. Why? The First Wolf answered. "The Moon Goddess forbade him." Orion laughed bitterly. "One final insult from a dying goddess." The temple doors opened completely. A powerful pulse of silver energy swept across the mountains. The Heart had awakened. Waiting. Calling. Searching. For the heir. Suddenly, darkness spread across the horizon. The Void King's army had arrived. Millions of shadow creatures filled the valleys below. An endless sea of darkness. The war was catching up to them. Lucien looked toward Evelyn. "We don't have much time." She nodded. The temple was the only hope. The only chance. She took a step forward. Toward the entrance. Toward the Heart. Toward her destiny. But Orion suddenly appeared in front of her. No movement. No warning. One second he stood fifty yards away. The next, he stood directly before her. Everyone froze. His speed was impossible. Even Lucien looked shocked. Orion smiled. "I'm afraid I can't let you enter." Silver energy erupted from his body. Ancient. Terrifying. Immortal. The mountain began collapsing beneath his power. And for the first time, Evelyn understood why even the First Wolf feared him. Because before the Void King... Before the Council... Before the prophecy... There had been Orion. The first Alpha. The immortal traitor. And he had been waiting thousands of years for this exact moment.
