Episode 2:Life beyond the gala

338 Words
Shaniel sank into the soft leather chair of her tiny apartment, the hum of the city drifting through the open window. The skyline glimmered with lights, but she barely noticed. Her day had been relentless meetings, calls, and endless deadlines yet she wouldn’t trade her independence for anything. She had worked hard to build this life, and no one, billionaire or not, could intimidate her. A knock on the door pulled her from her thoughts. “Lila!” Shaniel smiled as her roommate bustled in, wine bottle in hand. “Long day?” “You have no idea,” Lila laughed, uncorking the wine. “Sit. Spill. I need all the drama you’ve got.” Shaniel sank into the cushions, laughing despite herself. She told stories of client disasters, office politics, and the little triumphs that reminded her she was capable. Here, with wine and laughter, she could forget the weight of deadlines and the high-stakes world outside. Yet even in comfort, her thoughts drifted back to the gala. That man Adrian Blackwood wasn’t just a name whispered in awe. There was something dangerous in him, something that set her instincts on edge, yet refused to let go of her curiosity. A ping from her laptop snapped her back to reality. A client needed her final approval on a project due tomorrow. Shaniel glanced at Lila and shook her head. “Business first,” she muttered, opening her files and diving back into work. Independence wasn’t just a trait; it was survival. Hours later, as she locked her apartment door, the city streets stretched quiet beneath the moonlight. She paused, sensing movement across the alley, a fleeting shadow that vanished as quickly as it appeared. Her pulse quickened. She told herself it was nothing. But deep down, a tiny thrill stirred. Her life, structured and disciplined, had cracks openings for chaos, intrigue, and maybe danger. She didn’t know it yet, but the collision from the gala was only the beginning. Somewhere in the city, someone was already watching.
