Chapter Five
Malia was up early the next morning eager to start her mission. She had enough time to shower and get dressed in her workout clothes: a tank top and yoga pants. She put her ginger hair up in a messy updo thinking about how she'd have to get more hair dye in about a month or so, she put on lip balm and smacked her lips only then did she feel like she was ready to go. She followed Cyrian to a clearing in the woods where the pack trained, there were about thirty werewolves there already warming up.
"The Alpha will arrive soon. Try not to draw too much attention to yourself." Cyrian told her.
She nodded. There were too many eyes on her watching her even as they were warming up.
Malia was nervous but she forced herself to remain calm. You've got this Malia, she bolstered herself with a little pep talk and just as Cyrian had said Alpha Max arrived looking intimidating. Everyone stopped what they were doing and fell in line as his dark eyes scanned their faces like he was making roll call until those dark eyes fell on Malia in the crowd and when sucked in a breath.
His eyes stayed on her a moment longer before he walked over to her.
"What are you doing here?" He demanded, his tone was cold and distant there were no traces of the flirty Alpha she'd met yesterday. Cyrian came to her defense.
“Alpha this is my cousin Malia Dominguez."
Alpha Max didn't spare Cyrian a glance as he continues to pin Malia down with a stare.
“When did she arrive?"
“Yesterday Alpha."
“Why didn't you bring her to me?"
Cyrian made a show of looking down at his booted feet. “I'm sorry Alpha it slipped my mind."
“Next time you bring a stranger without my permission both of you will be punished understood?"
“Yes Alpha." Cyrian said with his head his bowed Malia was sure he was cursing the Alpha the whole time.
To Malia the Alpha said. “I do not take too kindly to being lied to."
“I'm sorry Alpha." Malia bowed her head appearing as meek as possible. If she was going to get her job done she was going to have to swallow. “It won't happen again." She added.
“Begin training, pair yourselves." He said, his voice booming across the clearing.
Training began and everyone was paired up except Malia. She stood on the sidelines watching. She'd always imagined a typical werewolf day was all about running in the woods and frolicking but to see all these first hand–it wasn't much different from what they do at the hunters training camp. Malia's entire childhood involved training and more training she had to be the best there was no two ways about it and it paid off. This wasn't her first encounter with werewolves but it was her first undercover and so far she could say she was doing a pretty damn good job. She just gotta admire their dedication though and the lethal swiftness with which they moved she imagined that was a given considering they're not humans it's no wonder no one has been able to go head to head with the pack and emerge victorious.
Malia watched them a while longer tapping her foot impatiently, Alpha Max was off speaking to his Beta. She blew out a breath. “f**k this." She muttered and left the training ground.
