Amelia Hart had never been one to believe in fairy tales. At 28, she had worked her way up to being the head of marketing at a prestigious New York firm. Her days were filled with meetings, deadlines, and late nights at the office. Romance, she often joked, was a luxury she simply couldn’t afford.
It was on one such late night, after the lights in the office had dimmed and the cleaning crew had started their rounds, that Amelia’s life changed. As she stood by the window of her office, looking out over the glittering city below, she heard a soft knock on the door.
“Come in,” she called, expecting to see her assistant or one of her colleagues. Instead, a tall, strikingly handsome man stepped into the room. He had dark hair that was just a bit too long, falling over his forehead, and eyes that seemed to see right through her. He wore a tailored suit that probably cost more than her monthly rent.
“Ms. Hart, I presume?” he said with a slight British accent.
“Yes,” Amelia replied, trying to keep her voice steady. “And you are?”
“Alexander Carlisle,” he said, extending his hand. “I’m the new CEO of Carlisle Industries.”
Amelia’s breath caught. She had heard rumors of the company’s acquisition by a mysterious billionaire, but she hadn’t expected him to show up in her office. She shook his hand, feeling the warmth of his skin against hers, and found herself momentarily at a loss for words.
“I was hoping we could discuss some of your marketing strategies,” Alexander said, his eyes never leaving hers. “I’ve heard impressive things about you.”
“Of course,” Amelia said, gesturing to the chair in front of her desk. “Please, have a seat.”
As they discussed the company’s future, Amelia couldn’t help but notice the way Alexander’s eyes seemed to light up when he talked about his plans. There was something magnetic about him, something that drew her in despite her best efforts to rem
ain professional.
