Chapter Four

1385 Words
Wilson’s driver could immediately guess where to on seeing him come out of the office building with a frown on his face. “Where to, sir?” he asked, collecting his briefcase from him. “Your parents’ home?” “Yes.” Under normal circumstances, he didn’t mind going over to his parents’ but whenever they decided to invite his brother alongside him, he immediately began to look for reasons to not go. It wasn’t one sided, his brother also hated dinners with him and never failed to hide it at every dinner table. The traffic he got into on his way to his parents made it worse. If he was lucky, he’d get there in an hour and thirty minutes and on days when he was just lucky, he’d get there after thinking about the encounter he was about to face for about two hours. It was apparently one of his lucky days as he managed to get to his parents’ in just an hour thirty minutes. He stepped out and told his driver to take his car with him and leave as he planned on finally taking the car he had left at their place the last time he visited. He knew his brother was around already the moment he stepped in. He had always been obsessed with using strong cologne and that night was no different. He could smell his cologne right from the entrance and all the way to the dining where the whole family were seated. “Wilson!” his mum exclaimed as she saw him, his dad and brother raising their heads to look at him. “You’re here already. I was just about to call to ask about your whereabouts.” “There’s no need for that,” he said as she walked towards him to give him a quick hug. “Hey dad.” “Wilson,” his dad acknowledged his presence. “Almost feels like we haven’t seen you in forever. How have you been? Buried in work as usual?” “Someone has to do the job,” he replied his dad, taking the seat as farthest from his brother as possible. “Too bad I’m that person.” His dad simply laughed lightly. “You don’t have to work so hard all the time.” “Wilson, William,” his mum let out. “Aren’t you both going to at least acknowledge each other’s presence?” The twins simply looked up at each other and look away. “What is wrong with you both?” their mum spoke up. “You’re twins for heavens sake!” “Mum,” it was William’s turn to speak up. “I came here cause you said it was just dinner. Let it be just that.” “What do you mean?” his dad replied him. “How can it be just dinner? In fact how can this be a normal dinner when our sons act like they each other?” “Act?” William scoffed. “Act like they hate each other? If anything, this is far from an act. I’m not acting.” “So you actually hate your brother?” his father retorted. “Is that what you’re both telling me right now? What in the world happened between you two?! You used to be best friends and were so inseparable so what-” “Dad,” William interrupted his dad and got up. “I came here to have nothing but dinner but I suddenly have lost my appetite. So I guess we’ll be having this dinner some other time when I’m actually in the mood to eat.” “William!” “Actually,” Wilson joined his brother on his feet. “I also have important business to attend to. Sorry, you all already used up the little time I was willing to spare.” “What?” their dad seemed shocked to the bones. “I can’t believe you two.” “Good bye, dad. You too, mum.” Without their parents’ approval, the twins left the dining and the house. Wilson headed to the garage and on seeing his old car with his key on it, he opened it, got in and drove out of his parents’ house. He glanced at his wristwatch occasionally as he drove. He was running out of time and he could only hope by the time he got to Charlotte’s shop, she wouldn’t be done for the day. On driving as fast as he could, he got to Charlotte’s shop and immediately stepped out of his car. Much to his disappointment, by the time he walked over to her shop, it was locked, all the lights being out. “f**k,” Wilson groaned then cursed. He glanced at his wristwatch and it was indeed already late. It was already almost 9pm and it seemed like she closed her shop by 8pm. He just needed to see her. He needed to be sure she wasn’t crying and was okay for him to be at peace. A thought struck his mind and without hesitation, he acted on it. Remembering he knew where she lived, he got into his car and immediately drove in the direction. He was just going to hang around her house and if he was lucky, she’d come out and he’ll see her face and feel satisfied. He suddenly began to pray his luck for the day hadn’t run out as he was able to get to his parents’ in time. He got to her street and immediately slowed down. It was dark with only few street lights, the light from his car doing the most lightening. As he realized he had gotten to the exact spot he dropped her off the previous day, he turned off the engine of his car and waited for her to coincidentally show up. Luckily, he hadn’t run out of his luck for the day as in barely ten minutes of him waiting in his car, she showed up. He immediately unclasped his seatbelt, watching her walk with quick steps, her hair tied up in a ponytail dancing around as she did. Quickly, he stepped out of his car and shut the door. Her steps were quick and he had to double his steps to catch up with her. “Charlotte!” he called out to her as he always only few steps away from her. “Charlotte!” On hearing her name for the second time, she paused and turned, giving Wilson the opportunity to walk and meet up with her. “Charlotte,” he said softly on noticing her eyes. She looked like she was crying and on seeing he caught her, she quickly looked away. “What happened?” “Why do you always have to see me like this?” she looked away, a tear sliding down her cheek as she did. “Just go away.” “No,” he held her, stopping her from leaving. “I can’t. What-” He turned in the direction of her eyes and spotted her ex-boyfriend walking towards them. “Is it him?” “He just won’t leave me alone,” Charlotte let out, obviously frustrated. “Does he really think I’m that easy? To come to me and leave whenever he wants? I-” Wilson cupped her face in his hands, stopping her from talking. She looked at him, a tear escaping from her eyes as she did. “What do you want? Tell me.” “To be free,” she replied almost immediately. “I want him to know to know I’m not a toy he can just use whenever he wants. I want him out of my life.” She paused as she spotted him coming closer to her. “s**t, he’s here. I have to go.” “No,” Wilson held her hand as she was about to turn to leave. “I-” He cut her words shut by pulling her close to him, her hair dancing as he did. He let go of her hand temporarily, shifting his grip from her hand to her waist. He moved even closer to her and as he totally wrapped his hands around her waist, pulled her in for a kiss.
