On the shores of the river Sláine, the border of Mumhan and Laighin, Mannix stares at an army covered in blood. Swords battle in the fields behind him as the last of the Laighin knights fight to the bitter end. Their efforts are futile, for Ulaidh has won this battle, and Mannix’s focus is already on his next step across the river.
Several Laighin knights manage to break away and flee, some east, others west. Ulaidh"s army is awaiting orders.
“Shall we slay them?”
“No…” says Mannix. “Let them live… let them pass on the word we are coming.”
The army begins to set up a camp and start constructing a base where they will manage the future of their enterprise further west. Mannix and a few of his trusted knights discuss tactics and positioning, only to be interrupted by a messenger.
