CHAPTER 10 Tana pushed open the doors and came out of the building, then stopped cold in the middle of the street. It was rush hour in downtown San Francisco, and the streets were filled with cubicle drones wearing backpacks and shoulder bags who jostled Tana as they tried to make their way around her. They were done for the day, and in no mood to have their evening commute blocked by a woman who apparently had no idea what she was doing, or why. Where was she going? Tana had no idea. But she decided to get out of the way before somebody ran over her. She crossed to a Muni bus shelter at the end of the block, then sat on the bench and buried her face in her hands.
