CHAPTER 12 Tana hailed a cab outside a convenience store on Divisadero. The store had a sign out front that said PLENTY GROCERIES + LIQUOR in big red letters, as if that was all you needed to get by. The cab driver was a Sikh in a pink turban, and he was listening to Indian music on the radio. He had it turned down low so that none of his fares would be disturbed by it. Tana could barely hear it, but during the time to took to drive across town, she closed her eyes and pretended she was in another country where everything would be different, including her.
