The lead detective on the Emma Mayfield case, Tana learned from contemporaneous reports in The Bugle’s morgue, was a homicide cop named Aloysius Powell. He had led the investigation until the case went cold and the search for Emma, or her remains, was abandoned. But that was ten years ago. Was he still on the force? Tana had no idea, but she figured that Road Runner, aka Phil Jacobs, might know. Jacobs was the police reporter for the paper and covered the crime beat.
