CHAPTER 38 The guard glanced at Powell again when he emerged from the club, and Powell wondered if he checked out everybody twice, just to make sure nobody sneaked past him. Being a security guard was boring duty and standing outside a club night after night wearing a uniform that never quite fit while everybody else was inside having fun had to weigh on a man. Powell nodded at the guard, who returned the favor, then waited until the guard had lost sight of him in the crush of fans emerging from the club and walking to their cars. He looked around, as if to get his bearings, then walked around the building until he found the stage door. He checked his watch, then hung back in the shadows and waited for the door to open.
