Chappter 8: Closer Than Before

1454 Words
The atmosphere in the room shifted the moment their lips met, a spark igniting between them that neither could ignore. The kiss was hesitant at first, testing the waters, but quickly deepened as emotions long buried surfaced. Ling's hand moved to cup Orm's cheek, her thumb gently tracing the soft curve of her jaw. Orm leaned into the touch, her eyes fluttering closed as she let herself melt into the warmth of Ling's embrace. The second kiss was deeper, more urgent, as if trying to make up for all the lost time and missed opportunities. Ling's hands slipped around Orm's waist, pulling her closer, while Orm's fingers tangled in Ling's hair. It was a kiss filled with promises—of understanding, of forgiveness, of a future that was theirs to shape. The knock at the door was forgotten, the outside world fading away as they lost themselves in each other once again. Ling's heart pounded in her chest as she felt the heat of Orm's body against hers. She could feel the rapid beat of Orm's pulse under her fingertips, echoing her own. They pulled back just enough to catch their breath, foreheads resting against each other. Ling opened her eyes, meeting Orm's gaze. The look of vulnerability in Orm's eyes was mirrored in her own, a silent communication passing between them. "Stay with me tonight," Ling whispered, her voice barely audible but filled with a quiet intensity. Orm nodded, her breath warm against Ling's lips. No words were needed to express the desire, the longing that had built up over the years. They simply moved together, Ling leading Orm toward the couch, where they sat down, side by side. Orm's hands found their way to Ling's face, brushing back a strand of hair. "I've missed you," she admitted softly, her eyes searching Ling's for any sign of rejection. Instead, she found only acceptance, and it was all she needed. Ling's lips curved into a smile as she leaned in again, capturing Orm's mouth in a kiss that spoke of all the unspoken words, the silent yearnings that had lingered between them. The night unfolded in a series of soft touches and whispered confessions. They shared stories of the past, laughed about the awkwardness of their first meeting, and held each other close as the night deepened. There was a sense of safety in each other's arms, a feeling that nothing else mattered as long as they were together. At some point, the conversation drifted off, replaced by the soft sound of their breathing, the gentle rustle of fabric as they shifted to find a more comfortable position. They lay back on the couch, bodies entwined, Ling's head resting on Orm's chest, listening to the steady beat of her heart. Orm's hand lazily stroked Ling's back, drawing circles that lulled her into a state of peaceful contentment. Orm turned her head slightly, pressing a kiss to Ling's forehead. "I'm sorry," she murmured against Ling's skin. "For everything. For not being brave enough back then. For making you feel alone." Ling's eyes fluttered open, and she shifted so she could look into Orm's eyes. "We both made mistakes," Ling said softly. "But we have now, and that's all that matters." She reached up, her fingers brushing Orm's cheek. "We can start over, if you want." Orm nodded, her eyes bright with unshed tears. "I want that more than anything," she said, her voice trembling with emotion. Ling smiled, a sense of peace settling over her as she leaned in to kiss Orm again, sealing their promise. They moved together, a dance of exploration and rediscovery, hands roaming over familiar yet foreign territory. Each kiss, each touch was a reaffirmation of the bond they had once shared, a vow to never let go again. As they fell into each other, the past slipped away, replaced by the hope of what could be. When they finally pulled away, their breathing heavy, they settled into a comfortable silence, simply enjoying the presence of the other. Ling reached for Orm's hand, intertwining their fingers. Orm's thumb gently stroked the back of Ling's hand, a small, intimate gesture that spoke of the love they shared. The next morning Ling's heart raced as she watched Orm sleep beside her. The early morning light cast soft shadows on Orm's peaceful face, and for a moment, everything felt perfect. But as memories of their complicated past crept back into her mind, Ling felt a familiar pang of anxiety. The night had been perfect, but perfection scared her. She needed to leave, to protect herself from the vulnerability this love was causing. Gently, she slipped out of bed, trying not to wake Orm. Ling tiptoed toward the door, her heart beating loudly in her chest. Just as she reached for the doorknob, a soft voice stopped her in her tracks. "Where are you going?" Orm's voice was gentle but filled with concern. Ling froze, her hand hovering in the air. She turned to see Orm sitting up, eyes wide open and filled with a mixture of confusion and worry. Ling hesitated, her mind racing for an excuse, but the look in Orm's eyes melted her resolve. "I... I thought I should go," Ling admitted softly, confused and scared her voice barely a whisper. "Maybe it's better if I leave before things get more complicated." Orm stood up, crossing the room in quick strides until she was right in front of Ling. She reached out, her hand gently caressing Ling's cheek. "Stay," Orm pleaded, her voice full of emotion. "Please. Let's just be together, without overthinking it. We don't have to know what tomorrow brings. Just stay with me for today." Ling's defenses crumbled, and she found herself nodding, her eyes welling up with tears. "Okay," she whispered, feeling Orm's arms wrap around her in a comforting embrace. They stood there for a long moment, holding each other, the warmth of Orm's body against hers grounding her fears. The rest of the day unfolded like a dream. They moved through the morning with a newfound ease, preparing breakfast together in the kitchen. Ling chopped vegetables while Orm scrambled eggs, their movements synchronized as if they had done this a hundred times before. There was laughter over burnt toast and playful teasing when Ling insisted on seasoning the food herself. Later, they decided to take a bubble bath. The bathroom filled with the scent of lavender as they soaked in the warm water, bubbles rising around them like soft, foamy clouds. Ling leaned back against Orm, her head resting on Orm's shoulder. They talked about everything and nothing, sharing secrets and dreams that had been buried for too long. Orm's fingers gently traced circles on Ling's arm, and for the first time in a long while, Ling felt at peace. After the bath, wrapped in fluffy towels, they lounged in the living room. Orm suggested watching a movie, and they snuggled together on the couch, Ling's head resting on Orm's lap. The film played in the background, but neither of them paid much attention. Orm's fingers combed through Ling's hair absentmindedly, and Ling couldn't help but smile at the simplicity of it all. As the evening drew near, they found themselves in the kitchen once more, preparing dinner. Orm insisted on making pasta, and Ling watched as she moved gracefully around the kitchen, a small smile playing on her lips. Ling set the table, lighting a candle in the center to add a touch of romance. They ate in comfortable silence, the only sound being the clinking of cutlery against plates. Ling reached out to touch Orm's hand, feeling the electricity between them. "I'm glad I stayed," Ling confessed, her voice soft. Orm squeezed her hand, her eyes sparkling with affection. "Me too," Orm replied. "Let's not worry about anything else, Ling. Just us, here and now." As they cleared the dishes and moved back to the couch, Ling's heart was full. They spent the rest of the night talking, laughing, and sharing stories until the room grew dark and the only light came from the flickering candle on the table. They fell asleep in each other's arms, the warmth of their bodies entwined keeping the shadows of doubt and fear at bay. It was a night that felt like forever, a night where the world outside ceased to exist, and all that mattered was the love they shared. Ling knew that reality would eventually come knocking, that the complications of their lives couldn't be kept at bay forever. But for now, she was content to stay in this bubble of love and safety, holding on to the one person who made her feel truly alive.
