The next day, I was waiting outside the City Hall bright and early. Before long, a white BMW pulled up in front of me. The window rolled down, and a handsome, dashing face appeared.
"Captain Holt, congratulations on your new lease on life."
Grayson Shaw took off his sunglasses and looked at me, his eyes brimming with a smile. He was my childhood sweetheart, the friend I'd grown up with.
Hand in hand, we walked into the City Hall to file the paperwork. The clerk glanced up, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. "You two didn't waste any time, did you?"
I felt a little awkward, but Grayson didn't mind in the least. He filled out the forms and glanced up at me. "What, afraid I'll think you're just using me as a shield?"
I shook my head. "I just feel like it isn't fair to you."
