[Rosamund “Rosa”]
It was early morning and I could feel the sun rising. All wolves know when the moon and sun rises. I don’t know why, but it does help. I go up from my place in the attic. I didn’t really have bed, it was more like some blankets and rags on the ground. I didn’t have much clothing as well. It was a typical servants clothing that many Omegas and myself would wear. Some of the young orphan pups too. That was the life in Shadow Fang. If you didn’t have parents, if they were killed in a rogue hunting, or if they disobeyed the Alpha and his family, you became a servant to the Shadow Fang Pack.
I was the oldest at twenty, but I was different then them. I was given the title Omega by the Luna, but that was because she was afraid of my true origin. I only knew small details, but my wolf, Taria, and I just did not feel like an Omega.
The Luna had given me specific laws to follow by, if I did not, they not just me but the younger pups would be punished. She knew I cared for the orphan pups and she knew that they came to me after a beating. I had special abilities since they day I was born and I tried as much to help the young pups with the pain. One of the laws the Luna gave me was to heal any warrior that came to me, no matter how weak I was. Another law was never to shift in front of people. She limited my time to run outside and it was only during the day. Never at night. The last law was that I could never tell any pack members that I was the Alpha and Luna’s niece. I was the previous Alpha and Luna’s daughter.
I was weak as a child, so my parents kept me hidden and only their Beta and Delta knew about my birth. I was told that after my birth, my mother had to lie to everyone and say that her pup had died during childbirth. They told me this, but when I was six, they were killed by rogues. Or so I was told. I couldn’t remember. The trauma of the night blocked my memories and some days I had trouble remember my parents faces. That was over fourteen years ago. I had gotten used to being hit by my cousins and having to do chores from day to night.
Speaking of which, I have to get the other pups and Omegas up. If not, the Luna will not be happy. I quickly get everyone up and dressed. There is about fifteen of us in total from ages five to twenty. The last to wake up was Calla the five year old. Her older brother, the second oldest in our group, Mitch went over and slowly shook her up.“Calla, come one sweetie. We have to get up.” Slowly her light blue eyes opened. She looked very tired.
It had hadn’t been long since they had joined a servants. Their parents were strong warriors with good hearts, not like most of Shadow Fang. They died protecting Mitch and Calla from rogues after the rogues got through the patrol. After that, Calla hasn’t said a word.
Mitch apologized and got her ready. I said it was okay and helped the last few. Today was hard, I was weak from yesterday. There had been a rogue hunting and many of the warriors had been injured. I was forced to heal each and every one. I was also forced to cover the tracks of the pack as they returned to the pack house. I could control elements as well. Kind of like a witch, but it was limited.
I looked over at the time and quickly moved everyone downstairs. We were just in time for when the Luna came in a inspected us. “Alright you worthless creatures. I need you to clean the pack house until there is no dust. If there is dust, the youngest will be punished today.”
That meant Calla and I stepped out, “Luna, I apologize for the outburst, but I volunteer instead.”
She came over to me, her dark green eyes looking at me. That was my mistake, “How dare you look at your Luna in my eyes.” She then snapped her fingers and a warrior came out. One of her guards. “Make this mongrel pay for her words and the rest of you get to work. I have changed my mind, it will be the oldest as usual. Her outburst has also given you no breakfast or lunch. Now get to work!”
The guard grabbed and threw me outside. It was a hazy day, like it was going to downpour. The guard started punching me and he kicked my ribs. I could feel some of them breaking on the impact. He then took a silver knife, it had a handle to protect him, and sliced my left arm. The pain was so strong that I almost passed out, but I had to keep strong. If I passed out, the Luna would just punish the pups and Omegas even more. The guard laughed and then went back to the Luna.
I coughed and each cough hurt my aching ribs. Just when I thought they healed, they were broken once again. The problem with my gifts is that, when I heal someone, it limits my healing and unless I can rest, my fast healing won’t be as good as a normal wolf.
I slowly got up and moved back to the pack house. The pups and Omegas were working diligently and I was proud of them. They tried their best to survive and if that meant I had to take it beatings, the so be it. I felt the need to protect them. Mitch came over to me along with another Omega. They helped me sit on the ground and rest against the back. Mitch quickly grabbed something to cover the wound on my arm. It was hard to move since the silver is slowly poisoning my arm. I spoke to him, “Thank you as always. Now go back to the others, I don’t want a guard to see you helping me. I will help when I can catch my breath.”
“Of course Rosa! You protected Calla and many times before you have protected the other pups. I wish I could do more to help,” Mitch replied. He was a small fifteen-year-old, but that was because he had yet to get his wolf. I was the only one with my wolf and I could feel Taira hurting as well.
“It’s ok. This is enough. Go back and help them,” I smiled at him.
He nodded and quickly returned to the other pups. I sighed and then gasped in pain as my ribs were agitated. I tried to breath evenly and once my breathing was in-control, I got up and started to help everyone else.

It was dark out and down-pouring. It had been almost ten hours of work when the Luna returned. She looked around the pack house and inspected every detail. She seemed satisfied, for once, and then was about to say something, but the Beta came rushing it. “Luna, it’s the Royal pack, they are coming to the pack house in a couple minutes. The boarder patrol has already let them in. The Alpha would like you to hide the mongrels.”
“Don’t try to order me Beta. I am more than you. I will do as a please with my slaves,” she demanded and the Beta backed away. She was a cruel Luna, but her power made people fall to her knees. The Luna looked towards us and commanded, “All slaves are to go to the attic and I will lock the door. All except, you.” She pointed at me and I was not surprised. “Normally, when Royal Pack comes I would love to hide you were the world can not see you, but I have a special task for you. You will create everything for the Royal Pack and take care of the arrangements immediately.”
I lowered my head as she spoke directly to me and I responded, “Yes, Luna.”
I kept my head down as she order the others to return to the attic. With as much strength as I could try to muster, I did as the Luna wanted. It took more time then usual, but I was able to get it all finished. Soon my twin cousins came in to the pack house main room. They were dressed in their best, and soon the Alpha entered the room as well. I moved quietly to the back of the room before they could yell at me to get out of the way. I kept my head down.
However, my vision was getting blurry and it was hard to concentrate. I was feeling weaker and weaker. My ribs protested and it was getting harder to breathe. The pain from my arm was also becoming unbearable. I had been keeping up with the pain during the chores since when I tried to help, the others kept taking over and not letting me do much. It was sweet and it helped me keep my strength up, but after using my abilities to make this room presentable, I was finally at my limit.
My knees almost buckled and I could feel myself loosing consciousness, but when the doors opened again, the most delicious and enticing scent filled my nose. It was like a warm summer day. The scent made me look around and that’s when I stared into the most breathtaking, unusual, auburn eyes.
My heart ached and my wolf just spoke one word, “Mate.”
