Prologue

It all began in the hospital of Argos. An old man outside the door could hear the yelling and screaming from inside room 416. He had a feeling something was going to happen there, just like many of the other rooms going through the same process; the process of birthing a small child. He turned and lingered by the door, standing there for a few minutes under a flickering light before he was told to leave for the simple reason that he was not family. He did as he was told, and left the hospital, never to return.  Something was happening in that room, though; something seemingly unnatural, yet surreal. Amelia, the mother of the child, held her child in her arms after the doctors did what they had to do, saying she was a very healthy baby girl and Amelia was lucky to have her.  Amelia looked into her baby’s eyes and smiled, feeling the love she knew she would feel once she held her greatest possession; because she would possess her. OH, she would possess her, and protect her, and nurture her, and keep her from any boys who want to deceive her and rid her of her innocence. They will never touch you, Amelia thought. Not a single hair. Amelia started to cry, soaking her gown in salty, involuntary tears. The lights flickered again, more so this time than before. Amelia shook in her sobbing and the doctors took the babe, reacting to the quick frequency of the heart monitor. The beeping echoed throughout the world, waking up sleeping somebody’s in their nightmarish dreams, and granting the wishes of those passionately wishing.  Spasms shook the earth as Amelia twisted and turned in her bed, the bedding being dyed red, her daughter crying horrible screams, the machine failed to continue beeping and then there was silence so beautifully deafening and dangerous, one could fall asleep to it. Amelia had slumbered and the lights had gone out.  Nurses were in and out of the room, comforting Amelia, and helping her breast feed her baby girl. She had decided to name her Henrietta Charlotte Elizabeth Morgan. She would rock her baby in the little rocking chair beside the bed and cry tears of joy. Looking at Henrietta, admiring her was one of the most peaceful feelings she had ever felt. She knew that night she would have to return home to her boyfriend. He had not shown up to the small ceremony, and had not had a chance to name her. It does not matter, though. He would not be in her daughter's life much longer.  He is a King: a ruthless one, and he lingers here and there, making women pregnant, attracting them to his kingdom and once he has gotten what he desires, he abandons them. All of the women fall for it except Amelia. She knew from the start just exactly who he was, but she wanted to bear a child. She was infertile before, but with Argonaut, anything was possible. And she gave birth to a pale girl with dark blue eyes, soft lilac hairs upon her head, and skin the color of snow. Her lips puckered out of her face.  Amelia knew she was going to be special. Oh so very special. She also knew she would not last very long to raise her. She would one day have to hand her to her father and she dreaded that day. Maybe I will live up to 15 or so more years. Maybe 20 if I am lucky enough. Doing unnatural things with the King of all l**t takes away decades of years off someoneś life. It's absolutely despicable, it's horribly awful and sickening, but it is a worthy price to pay for a child. At least, for Amelia it is.  After she was ready enough to go home, Amelia called a cab with Henrietta on her shoulder. She was so small, so fragile, so very weak. She wore a small velvet blanket, soft and covered in roses with a small stain of red on the corner. Amelia pet Henrietta, rubbing her back as she slept soundly. The cab came to a slow stop in front of her, yellow and dull, as Amelia knew the next few hours would be like. The numbers on the cab were blurred and Amelia shivered before entering the vehicle. “Where to?” said the driver. Amelia glanced up at the old man, head tilted high and she told him the address of a home a few blocks away from her own. The man nodded and started to drive. The ride to the house did not last very long and soon it came to a slow stop. “We have arrived,” he told Amelia respectively. Amelia nodded, paid the man, and exited the vehicle, shivering from the cold. She just needed to walk home now.  Amelia walked across the road quickly, needing to get to the house before she and Henrietta froze down to the bone. The walk was a long one, lasting about ten minutes or so. The time went by quite slowly. Henrietta had started to shiver under her covers and was starting to  wake. She made small, little sounds and shook her head. “Shhh…” Amelia murmured, and the baby went back to sleep quietly.  Amelia arrived at the house to see a man on the porch, her current boyfriend, the King of all things different. One step closer to the man, and one would sense his destructively pleasing aura. It affected both genders, not only women, though he has never been seen with a man before. Amelia lingered there by the road, hesitating. He could start affecting her the moment she stepped on the property. She would lose her mind, and part of her soul, and completely lose control of herself. She would set her baby aside and no longer care until the King had pleased himself with her body. Amelia was caught between two decisions when his deep melodic voice called her over. “Amelia…” his deep accent did things to her no man ever could do with anything. Amelia was hypnotized and she knew that in her heart, even as her body moved gracefully toward him that it was too late to stop it. “Yes, baby, come to me…” His voice called to her very soul. She almost dropped the baby on the grass when she saw something small and blue and came to her senses. It was some sort of light, but whatever it was the light came from, she was eternally grateful for it. Ignoring Argonaut, Amelia walked inside the house quickly before he could use his mysterious power against her. He followed close behind her, slow, almost hesitant. Amelia set her sleeping child in the crib beside the small sofa, and turned around to look up at her lover.  “Argonaut…” Amelia whispered to him. He grabbed a piece of her hair and set it behind her ear. She leaned into his caress, savoring the feeling before he abandoned her like he did all the rest.  He looked into her eyes, and kissed her lips, his gentle movements pleasing Amelia deep in her soul. She could not get attached though. It was f*******n, against her own morals. Argonaut leaned into her hair and breathed in her ear, “Say it again…” Amelia’s heart quickened as heat filled her. “Say what?” said her whispered, slightly breathless reply. His hand travelled farther into her hair and he grabbed it, making Amelia gasp, and shut her eyes upon instinct.  He leaned forward again, and grabbed her waist with his other hand. Her hands fell on his chest, resting there peacefully. “Open your eyes.” She did as she was told, and found him staring into her eyes. His eyes, a dark blue color, his skin so white, his hair: so soft. Henrietta inherited so much from him. More than likely because Amelia didn’t have much to give her. Argonaut’s eyes demanded her attention, and alarms went off in her head. He was doing it again to her, but did she really hate it? The hand on her hip rose up to her chest and she felt him grab her left breast. The breath completely left Amelia’s system. She could not do this, but why was she not complaining? “I want you…” she heard herself say.  “Yes, baby, I know, but you must say it!” Argonaut said fiercely, tugging on both at the same time. She knew exactly what he was referring to. She blinked slowly a few times,  wondering if she really should. She knew what it meant, but could she really do it again now that she had gotten what she really wanted?  Just once more won’t hurt. She thought to herself, smiling. “Argonaut…” It was the last time it would happen, she knew, but she felt like she had to just for the sake of it. The next few days went by quickly as Argonaut packed his things. The day before he left, they were lying in bed, and Argonaut had his arms around her, holding her tightly, securely. He whispered a few things in her ear that night. “That baby…” He had never once mentioned the baby since she had brought it home. “Henrietta will be mine.” Amelia froze. She had not expected that from him. No, she was all Amelia had, how could he? “I won’t allow it.” Amelia whispered, shaking. Argonaut’s hand roamed downward, and Amelia flinched in his not so subtle exploration of her body. Amelia whimpered out “She’s--” and gasped. She didn’t want to do it again, but at this point, it was not like she had much of a choice. “--mine. Not yours.” She was able to speak. She knew right then and there that there was nothing she could do about him coming back for Henrietta.  As they made love to each other, he kept saying terrible things that made the tears fall on Amelia’s face. Argonaut left the very next day.
