In the living room, Mack waited for Heather to take a seat on the sofa before she sat down, too, close enough that their knees touched. She held one of Heather’s hands in both of hers and waited. This was Heather’s show, but Mack couldn’t imagine what she might have to say that would be upsetting. She already assured Mack they weren’t breaking up, and Mack hadn’t even been sure they were going together in the first place.
