This was it! We were almost within grasp of our child. Okay so maybe she wasn't exactly ours but I knew that she would be ours as soon as I looked at her. I don't even care that she comes with "baggage" at least that's what Anthony says. How does a baby come with baggage? How can a sweet innocent.. wait I know nothing about this child. As my mind started to wander, I thought I better ask.
"Dear, can you tell me more about this wonderful blessing?" I said staring at Anthony in straight agony that I wasn't holding it already.
"All I know is that my distant cousin Luther has a friend that is looking for a home for a baby to be secretly adopted,
I am trying to find out more information right now sweetheart" He looked at me knowing this was my dream. We were told just last year we couldn't have kids of our own and it almost broke me. All I've ever wanted to do was be a mother, and Anthony would do anything for me. I couldn't even imagine my life without him. He was the sweetest man with the hardest working personality. He had reddish brown hair, pale colored skin, blue eyes that see into your soul and the most amazingly kind personality that just made me melt. He could just look at me and make me melt. Why did this baby need to be secretly adopted? I had so many questions but I didn't care. I just wanted to hold.. wait I didn't even know if the baby was a boy or a girl. The waiting was killing me, but when I looked up I saw Anthony smiling.
"What?" I said letting a tear fall down my cheek. I must have been lost in my head for a good few minutes because I didn't remember hearing him on the phone.
"She's a girl and she's coming tonight!" He comforted me knowing I was going to be emotional.
"Who is bringing her? How old is she? How are we supposed to sign paperwork at this hour? Does she have a name?" My head was doing circles in my head and Anthony just held me as I cried.
"Dear slow down, we will have every chance to find out those answers when Luther brings her with the parents and explains the situation" He reassured me.
"Okay, okay"
"Go get cleaned up and compose yourself they will be here in an hour"
My eyes widend and I ran upstairs to get in the shower.

My sweet dear wife was going to have a heart attack she was so excited. I know this has been her dream since we were kids and this last year has been one of the worst of her life. I'm so glad I put the word out to my family that even distant cousins knew and helped me make my dear, Ana, happy as can be. I would do anything for her. She has been the love of my life for so long, I honestly don't know what I would do if she had turned me down. I would have been devastated. She's the most beautiful woman I literally have ever seen. The softest long blonde hair with a hint of brown, green emerald colored eyes, and a very thin structure. I even remember the moment I fell for her. We were in 5th grade, which feels so long ago. The school bully had just pushed down a girl with pigtails and she intervened. I remember the way she handled the situation with compassion but also with such courage and bravery had me swooning in the hallway. She helped the girl up and took her to the nurse's office. I've since told her how much this moment impacted both our lives and she doesn't even remember this event. That is how genuine she is, just another day in her life.
"Dear, you look beautiful" I say as she comes out of the bathroom.
"I have to look my best so they don't change their minds, we need to be perfect"
"Ana, we will be the perfect parents to whatever child we end up raising, don't put more pressure on yourself"
"You're right I just need to take a couple deep breaths and then i'll be.." Just then the doorbell rang.
"aahhh" She squealed running up the stairs.
I just chuckled, seeing her this giddy made my heart flutter. I opened the door and greeted my cousin. I saw he was standing there with two people, as which I assumed to be the baby's parents.
"Anthony, my man, how have you been?" Luther said with a smile.
"We've been managing, looks like things are actually looking up now" I returned.
"Ah, I heard. Ana and you have been in my thoughts. Speaking of.. this is Wanda and William Weber, and this little one is Wendy."
"Oh, please do come in," I said.
They made their way inside and I shook both of their hands. They were slightly mysterious and as I was going to ask about the details of Wendy's secret adoption, Ana came in excitedly.
"Oh she is just the most precious thing" she said googling at Wendy.
"Indeed she is," said Wanda holding her closer.
Ana and I stared at each other like we were lost. What was going on? I finally mustered up the courage to ask Luther.
"Luther, my friend, why don't we grab cookies and tea from the kitchen" Motioning with my eyes I needed to speak to him privately.
"Alright then I'll leave you to get more acquainted then while I help him in the kitchen" Luther said to Wanda, William, and Ana.
Ana just looked at us with a hesitant smile.
"Luther what is going on with family? Why does it seem they're not ready to let go of their child?" I exclaimed while filling the kettle with water from the sink.
"Well from what I have been told, Wanda and William love their child and would love to keep her, but they apparently have a sketchy past and well they have people after them. I don't know the details behind that, but I do know they don't want to keep her in danger by being greedy and keeping the little darling Wendy."
"So will they come back for her? I can't give Ana the chance to be a mother if they come back for her and take it all away again" I said to him with a concerned look as I loaded the cookies onto the tray.
"No, no I have explained that this will not be an option and they know it as well, but they do want to be able to check on her with you whenever they want to" Luther looked as if he was hiding something from me.
"What else?" I said and the kettle going off startled me.
"Well they want you to know but only you, so you can't tell Ana that.. well they're Witches. Lux Witches to be exact" Luther just looked blankly at me like he thought we would reject him.
"Well I have heard stories about them but I also know nothing about them besides speculation from said stories. What happens if we can't handle her powers?" I said looking at him with fear almost dropping the tray of cookies and tea as we made our way back to the living room.
"We will still communicate and if anyone could handle it you and Ana can, I'm sure of it" He smiled with the utmost confidence.
I wanted to run and tell my love what we might be getting ourselves into, but he said for some reason she couldn't know and well I do know that I have always been able to trust Luther. I just would have to play the best poker game face of my life, to save my new daughter.
{Ana's P.O.V.}
Anthony left me alone with them. Alone. What was I supposed to say.It seemed she didn;t trust me so I didn't want to make a move to hold Wendy when that's all I literally wanted to do. Was I supposed to start a conversation? Was I supposed to stay silent? Ugh why did he leave me?
"Why are you so tense?" William looked at me with a smile.
"Oh, um, I.. " releasing some of the muscles made my shoulders drop a few inches. I just sighed and started to ramble.
"Ana is it? or do you prefer Anastasia?" William just eased my tension by starting the conversation first.
"Ana is what I prefer, and well I apologize for showing my discomfort. I have always wanted to be a mother and though I didn't birth Wendy and that honor goes to you Wanda, I would be honored by you letting us raise her." I said shakingly. I didn't want them to change they're minds and choose a different couple.
"Look, let's get something straight," Wanda said. "I don't want to give away my daughter, I am letting her go to someone who will absolutely do her right and raise her with kindness, because we have some baggage that could cause her harm. As her parents we just want what's best for her and to see her live her life to the fullest"
"Yes ma'am" I looked at her with fear in my eyes.
"Why are you scared?" she said startling me.
"I honestly just don't want you to choose another family, I tried extra hard to make sure my house was clean, we were extra presentable and well I feel as though you are holding my future as well as yours in your hands. I realize .. " as I let a tear fall down my cheek, " that well, as I may be getting my dreams fulfilled that you are literally handing me yours" I let out a small sniffle.
She looked at me with sincerity and dropped her rude facial expression.
"She's perfect, William, I just had to make sure," Wanda said with a smile. He nodded in agreement.
I was so confused at this moment, when Anthony and Luther came back into the room. I looked at him with a mixed expression of hurt and confusion.
"So what's next?" He scanned the room slightly trying to avoid eye contact. I wondered what Luther and he discussed. We could only hope that they would agree we were the perfect fit.
