Emma met Catherine at a coffee shop near the foundation office.
Catherine looked nervous. She kept stirring her coffee without drinking it, her eyes darting around the café like she was afraid someone would see her.
"Thank you for meeting me," Catherine said finally.
"Of course," Emma replied. "What's going on?"
Catherine took a deep breath.
"After Richard died, I went through his belongings," Catherine said. "There was a safe deposit box that I didn't know about. I found it by accident when I was settling his estate."
Emma waited for her to continue.
"Inside was a letter," Catherine said. "Addressed to you. He wanted you to have it. But I didn't know if I should give it to you. It took me five years to decide."
