What now!?

I’ve been driving east for hours now and I still have no idea where we’re gonna go, I think of all the things I need to do when I get to wherever we’re going and umber one on that list is find somewhere to live. I hear phoenix stir and look over to see him rubbing his eyes and stretching, “good morning baby” I say “good morning mumma, do u know where we’re going yet” he says. I tell him I have no idea I’m just gonna drive and stop when I feel we’re far enough away that he can’t get to us. He smiles and says “ I don’t know why but I just know this is gonna be the start of something amazing for all of us” I smile at him and say “I hope so baby”. After a few minutes Hunter and river wake up and they both look really confused as to why we’re in the car so early, “morning sleepy heads” I say to which Hunter replies “mum where are we going and where’s dad” river looks at me through the rear view mirror smiles and says “mumma I’m hungry and I need to pee” I tell Hunter we’re going on an adventure and daddy had to stay behind as he had some important work to do and tell river we will stop at the nearest gas station to get food and she can use the restroom. Hunter looks confused and river just smiles and says “ok”. I’m gonna have to speak to Hunter when I finally get to where we’re starting our new life as he is the closest to his dad I know he’s not gonna take it well. When I see a gas station up ahead I pull in take the kids to use the restroom, grab some food and fill the tank then get back on the road. After what feels like forever we’re driving through a place called crescent city and I don’t know why but I get a good feeling about this place, I see a diner and pull in as it’s now way past the kids dinner time and if I’m honest I’m tired, hungry and need to get out of this car and stretch my legs. We go inside and a lovely waitress named Annie comes over to us and guides us to a booth, she takes our order and leaves us to go out it into the kitchen. While we’re waiting for our food I think about where we’re going to stay tonight and all the things I have to do like get the kids enrolled in a school, find a job and explain everything to Hunter and river. While I make a mental checklist Annie comes back with our drinks and says the food won’t be long I say thanks she smiles at the kids and asks if they want some activity pads while they wait, they all say yes please and I smile at her and mouth thank you. When she comes back with the activity pads and the kids are happily distracted she asks me if we’re here on vacation I say “no we actually just arrived here and I’m looking for somewhere to live” she looks at the kids then at me and says “you came here with no where to live” I tell her it was a spur of the moment thing, she looks at my face then at my wrists which I didn’t realise were on show and gives me a knowing look. She tells me there is an apartment above the dinner that the owner has been trying to rent for months she says she will talk to him and let me know. She also says “I guess your looking for a job and some schools for the kids too!?” Is this woman telepathic or really good at reading people? She goes on to say there is a job going at the diner and there is a school right down the street that takes late applications, I want to jump up and hug so bad right now but instead I just nod and she says “ I’ll speak to Doug about the job too, though I could probably tell you it’s yours already as we’re understaffed and there’s always a crazy breakfast rush”. A bell rings from the counter letting her know there is an order ready she goes to collect the order comes back and gives us our food, then goes off again I assume to speak to this Doug. While we’re eating I cross my fingers and toes and hope to every higher power I know of and before I know it she’s back with a huge smile on her face, “the apartment is yours you can move in straight away and Doug says you can start your trial shift in the morning” this time I do jump up and hug her and say a million thank yous. When I pull back she wipes away a tear I didn’t even realise I was crying and says “ welcome to crescent city” and for the first time in I don’t know how long I feel like I can breathe again.
