The two of them lifted their heads just in time to see kids chasing after Jake who had the football tucked inside his breadbasket like something precious. Steph and Ryan scrambled to their feet. They had been sitting just out of bounds, but with the group of boys continuing on their chaotic trajectory toward the pair, it was obvious that momentum had no respect for rules. Jake was running full bore, clearly trying to make a go for the end zone that was the school blacktop. All ten kids who made up the other team were on his tail. They closed in on him like a pack of wolves. His face was drawn up tight and his shoulders bounced from side to side in sync with his pumping legs.
